MOT/simple service places in Essex

I've just moved to Essex, and am looking for an MOT place for my tuscan. It probably needs a new battery and maybe a few odd jobs at the same time.

Normally I'd take it Dan Taylor in Kent, but he's booked out for a long time. Any recommendations for nearby places? I'm based near Basildon.

I've taken mine to South Hill Garage. If you tell them what needs doing, (and supply the relevant parts) they are pretty good. They replaced a fuel hose for me last year. They've done some odd jobs on my Dad's MR2 aswell.

You could try Hilton and Moss / Castle TVR near Stansted. Got my Cerb through its MOT last week and ironed out my list of little niggles (as well as a couple of others they came across). Loads of Tiv's parked up there which is a good sign, and v friendly and professional set up.

Castle's never really did it for me. On the few occasions I've been in there I was left standing around while people got on with far more important things. Their labour rates were (are?) horrendous too.

If you don't mind a 45 minute drive take it to Matt at Sebring on the Suffolk/Norfolk border. He's excellent and charges half the rate of Castle's (last time I checked).
