TVR and Top Gear

We get the new Top Gear pretty soon after the UK on BBC America now but they also fill the channel with old editions and I record a few that look interesting to watch between the interminable College basketball games that are currently captivating a nation. 
Late last night I watched the one from 2005 when they compared the Tuscan 2 to the Weissman. I remember being pretty pissed off when it was first shown but found myself being pissed off all over again 6 years later! Watching it after a passage of time has passed one can only wonder at the sheer bloody vindictiveness being shown by Clarkson and the Midget. Clarkson is not the best driver by a long chalk but you could see that he was deliberately trying to make the car look undriveable. He and the Midget then verbally trashed the car whilst talking up it's German rival (that cost 20k more) and even after the Stig had lapped the track a full 3 seconds faster in the Blackpool rocket both dismissed the TVR by saying they would still rather buy the Teutonic freak.
I'd forgotten quite how petty the episode had been until I watched it again and one wonders whether the outcome of the following 12 months may have been a little different had our leading "Car" show talked up what was a bloody good domestic product rather than apparently done their utmost to jeopardize it's chances of success.

My feelings exactly when I watch it 
[though tbh I try not to now]. The way they made a spectacle of getting in and out of the car too, I mean isn't it good that joe soap doesn't know how to get in and out??
How many Weissmans have you seen on the road? er me err NONE. It's old hat now and piss poor, same ole' s

Yes, it wastes all them computer bit byte thingies dont it !!!! Slows my computer down, realy annoying etc etc etc etc........In my opinion in was a completely crap comparison anyway. As said, the performances were no where near equal as far as speed, acceleration etc. Dont know what happened between Clarckson and Peter Wheeler but TG certainly seemed to go out of their way to trash TVR.
Clarkson and the short arse are just a pair of hypocrits as far I'm concerned. May is the only one who seems to avoid using pointless and cheep shots to get some kind of laugh.
They never seemed to acknowledge the fan base TVR's have and the sometimes blind love we have, but then use the same acknowledgement for other cars and their fans.
PS Does your TVR smell like a glue factory ?
PPS Seen one Weismann and that was in Braunschweig in northern Germany. Looked good but I think he liked the Tuscan I was in as well.

RELaaax... It's just a car themed entertainment show. It doesn't matter if they don't gush over every TVR which appears on the show. It won't make any difference to anyone who would buy one or the rubbernecking of the public as a TVR drives by. I think the anger you feel stems from thinking some people see it as incontestable fact. Don't worry about them either.
I think Top Gear is alright considering it as entertainment. Although, I'm not worrried if I miss an episode, there'll be another one in a few minutes.

They slag off all things British quite often unfairly then wonder why British company's fail. Bad press stick like mud even if it is done in jest!
I remember an episode where they slagged off a Tuscan because they didn't know how to get out of it! That's not the cars fault now is it!!!

I see that quite relaxed tbh. When people mention that episode I refer to the Stig test at the end, thats what counts for me. M3 basis? Yawn.
For the other things mentioned, that is what I love most. The brute force, the GRP smell when I go into the Garage every morning, the puzzled faces when I open the door.

TopGear are massive C U Next Tuesday'S when it comes to TVR and it makes my blood boil too

The Cerbera looked like a dangerously ill-conceived dildo, and while it briefly laid claim to being the fastest production car in the world, it seldom worked for long enough for anyone to find out. Which made up for the absence of any recognisable safety features.

They do tend to contradict themselves quite a bit when it comes to TVR's.
One minute they can be saying how great they are (although not often enough) and the next slating them off bigtime almost saying the opposite to what they have already said!
I am sure I did hear that Hammond was a bit of a TVR fan!

Jeremy Clarkson loved everything about TVR as can be seen as early as the Cerbera's launch when he showed it destroy all the competition including Porsche, Aston, Ferrari etc around 1996. I also remember how he used a bronze/flip coloured Tuscan in about 2000/2001 for a BBC series he did about speed and he couldn't rave enough about the marque. I lived in the same village as Peter Wheeler and it is quite well known that Clarkson got to know Peter Wheeler and because they shared an interest in shooting, Clarkson used to be invited to shoot on Peter's estate and I am sure was well looked after (having heard from other shoot guests). One shoot day someone close to Peter said something to upset Clarkson, he made a song and dance but Peter didn't bow down to JCs tantrum, so he flounced off and from that moment on TVR were slagged off at any given opportunity. Saying the Sagaris was the best TVR to date was a slight to PW because Smolenski had then taken over, even though the truth is the Sag was designed and developed under Peter.
What Peter Wheeler achieved whilst at TVR was incredible, but a tool like JC can undo the good work because he is preaching to a percentage of ill educated people who tune in for the previosly mentioned "Light entertainment show". Thankfully anyone reading this in the TVR forum already has a bit of passion about cars and whether they like or dislike TVRs will acknowledge the skills and achievements of all the people who have made such great cars for the last 60 years. The people at TVR made a difference to my life, Top Gear or Jeremy Clarkson didn't.
So on that bombshell, now you all know Clarkson can't drive and can't shoot either!

The Tuscan 2 was a definite improvement on the first one (which was also brilliant, I had both) and unquestionably easier to drive. It was also brilliantly fast as demonstrated when the Stig got his hands on it. The flippant remarks are a TG staple but watching that episode again lastnight it was obvious that this was something else. It was nasty and vindictive and intended to cause damage. The people who earned their living at Bristol Avenue deserved better.

When Jackie Stewart taught May how to drive, once again a Tuscan (2) was used.
If they really didn't like TVR's, would they have continued to use the vehicles as they did?

Hope you are taking to life in the Colonies and you are not missing too much from the UK. The American version of TG should be interesting enough if it doesn't follow the lead of TG shows from other countries. The TG show from the UK has been very successful and it is hard for a production crew/company to change something that has success and a profit. I may not have ever met you even though we have talked through the internet but both you and Tony (so called) come to my mind everytime I have one of my cars out for a spin getting my "TVR GRIN" on.
