Exhaust wrapping
Discussion
can do depending on how well the system work I think macdeb but cant see it causing any major detrmental effect on the system, but then I'm no expert!
I'm pretty sure its advised to only wrap the manifold and stop at the cats as they will end up overheating (unless you have removed them obviously!)

OK for racers but not really for road cars.
Racers now use Cermacoating (ceramic paints) as they are more permanent and efficient.
Bandages (besides other probs...) retain water.
Not an issue if you have stainless headers, but stock ones will rust out.
Short trip to the shops on a rainy night, park it up for a few weeks...
If the exhausts are red hot they will dry out as steam, but on short runs.

Regarding heat...it goes further downstream, mid box will be a few degrees hotter, but mainly out the back.

BTW the reason for doing it in the first place is heat soak.
Heat going out the back and not retained in the headers means under bonnet temps reduce quicker.
The heat from a stationary V8 cooks the ignition, wiring, starter, fuel etc
= Hot start probs. Very bad in a racer too.
Again, cermacoating massively reduces this. My headers (manifolds) are cool enough to touch from red hot in about 5 mins. Couldn't touch the plenum as too hot. No...Really.

Have a very nasty habit of catching fire though! What happens is you spring an oil leak and then the oil is absorbed into the wrap and up it goes ! Put out 4 fires like this on trackdays already this year last year I lost count but included a noble and a cerb.
For this reason alone I would only use a coating not a wrap.
