reconditioned verses new parts

I'm in need of a alternator for the chim but dont know if I should get a brand spanking new one or just send mine off to be reconditioned. on one hand yes a reco part is cheaper, but a brand new part is brand new.

just wondering what the masses think and if any of you use reconditioned parts.

Whats wrong with it?
On the pre cat alternator the brushes / electronic module is dead easy to take off the back - they are about a tenner on ebay.

Well looking at your car its a Serp engine so would be inclined to go new when they are this price http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Brand-New-Range-Rover-Altern... that's a bloody bargain £330+ from Land Rover dealers bothering with a recon for this money its a no brainer they come like this(no front pulley sometimes)just transfer the old one over,paid similar money to this about 3 years ago for a gen Magneti Marelli unit

It is a serp, it's also got ac and ps. So does that make any real difference to what alternator to get.

No, it's the same. I thought I needed one (it turned out I didn't) and the one in the eBay link above checked out.

thanks for the help gents, part ordered this morning. now all i need to find is a serp belt and i'll be away.
