I've tried he search facility but can't get anything to come up so sorry for a repat post.
Due in part to an ageing dodgy back, I am reluctantly considering seeling my Chimaera and a little while ago someone posted a topic asking about insurance and payment.
Is it reasonable to insist on proof of fully comp insurance before allowing a potential purchaser to drive the car?
Is it reasonable to insist on cleared payment before handing over the car, even if it takes a few days? I am reckoning on around £8k so cash must be as dodgy.
I don't want to appear to much of a control freak to any purchaser but I do need to cover my back
I've never sold privately before (well, amye 35 years ago) and the idea isn't filling me with good vibes so I'm a bit nervous about dealing with it.
Any helpful advice or a link to the previous topic would be welcome.

I am insisting on cleared funds before handing over keys - ie: cash checked and paid in OK at my bank counter or confirmed electronic transfer. No potential buyers have seemed to be put off by this, but it was stated in the ad and so I suppose those that were wouldn't bother to contact me.
My view is that a dealer can build into their business plan the occasional loss, as they are selling many vehicles. We private sellers are selling once in a blue moon, and can't risk losing the funds from that one and only sale.

Cleared payment ? Absolutely
Insurance ? You bet !
Personnally would not expect to drive car or allow purchaser to drive until that was near as damn it the final deciding factor. certainly don't want some "tyre kicker" let loose in your p & j then telling you its wrong colour, wrong spec. don't like stereo etc...
