Another new way to catch you out...

So, after a glitchless drive to work yesterday, I come out for the run home an we play the no startee game. Fuel pump primes, plenty of spinola on the button, just no vroom, not even a cough.
Pull the ECU out the footwell (must sort that rat's nest), and the handy Emerald LED telltale is confirming no crank signal. Delve head first into the engine bay in the dark and rain to the considerable delight of various colleagues (cheers for the helpful comments guys), and discover a power steering line has leaked and fluid has got into the VR sensor plug. Quick wipe and a wiggle and off we go.... they just get weirder

So proper ignition and TVR PAS are incompatible, do I sense the value of PAS cars falling dramatically

Joking aside are there any failure modes for a steering pump that are indicated by leaks? Looked like the fluid was coming from the reservoir inlet to the pump, which I wouldn't have assumed would be under any positive pressure, but the pump has been a bit noisy for a while so I'm wondering if there's more going on than meets the eye...
