Insurance for a young(ish) TVR driver
Discussion
A few years ago when I was 27 i got insured through A Mannings, then have had insurance with A Plan and Classic Line who were all the best i could find at the time for someone in their late 20's. If your car is garaged and you do low mileage you will have more options than this available i would think.
I'm 28 and paid £380 for mine this year with Adrian Flux - though there have been some mixed opinions of them on here lately.
All the others like Mannings, MSM etc… wanted two to three times that amount. It seems to rest on so many variables that what works for one person might not work for another even though their circumstances are similar. For what it's worth, Admiral came in with the next best quote of about £550 so maybe give them a try. If you do, try putting your car as parked on the roadside - it was about £100 extra to keep mine in the garage for some strange reason.

I've heard about insurers charging extra to keep it in the garage. Now, hypothetically speaking, what if the car was insured on the drive and you just accept you take your chances when reversing into the garage? Being under 30 it's more than my NCB is worth to claim for a knocking a wing mirror off in the way into the garage anyway...
And that's obviously ignoring the fundamental stupidity of charging people more to keep a loud, eye-catching car hidden from prying eyes rather than in full view of the criminal element.

Speaking of insurance, how many people use their NCB on their daily driver and how many on the TVR?
I've currently got mine on the Focus - don't think the Caterham policy even acrues NCB - but it struck me that might not be the best way round if I add something high risk to the collection.

i'm too up for renewal next month and the best quote i've had so far was from RH insurance for a garaged Chim 4.5 @ 3000 mile p.a and agreed value of £12k. Mild mods declared. Other competitors previously mentioned are consistenly coming across at £350. I'm 29.
Rather shockingly, my cheapest rate paid was when i picked up the car 4 years ago at the age of 25. No previous experience of high performance cars and jumping from a 1.3 into a 4.5 Hagerty let me have it for £235 fully comp, which at the time was cheaper than the Ka!!! Year on year with more experience and no claims i find myself paying more - something just aint fair

You need to go with someone who specialises IMO. We were with Tesco (part of Direct Line then)when we first had the griff as they were cheapest. Its when you need to claim thath the difference counts. Tesco were shocking, never spoke with the same person twice and made hundreds of calls. Now with Mannings. Had to deal with a claim this year and much simpler process.
Cheapest isn't necessarily the best.

Yep. My S was £225pa to insure with Hagerty on quite a generation mileage limit with unlimited additional track day cover at £22 a pop. At that point my 1.6 Focus cost about £500 on similar terms!
Shortly after I came into a bit of money and thought about upgrading to a T350 - five times the value and two or three times the power - and the quote was still less than that of the Focus.
Even at the time though Hagerty were miles cheaper than the usual Aon, Footman James, A-Plan etc.
