After banging in a thousand or so miles with the solids/adjustable rods I think it prudent to check all is o.k after this settling-in period. Before I do I was wondering what clearance you guys with similar are using.

After speaking to those considered knowlegeable in the field it seemed that somewhere in the region of 12 - 14 thou' is the norm and so I used that at install. However, contrary to what I believed, I've been told that as the motor warms, the clearances grow. Is this correct? If so why the rather large clearance on a cold motor? Surely this will lead to a loss of cam duration and lift let alone the opening ramp slapping the lifter? Could the rods drop out of the cups?

Please fill me in oh knowledgeable ones coz I dunno . . . .

Run both inlet and exhaust at .008 thou when cold, make sure you adjust on base circle

Thanks Dom; I'll do that thumbup. Seems a more reasonable figure to my mind. Should quieten down the rustle too.

Can anyone tell me what happens to the gap during warm up: does it increase or decrease?

My initial thoughts Paul but I've been told otherwise; what's more, told by someone who's business is all things RV8iness.
