I was on holiday in the Algarve last week and went to the Portimao circuit where Melling has a unit. It was the only unit that was closed (to be fair, there were only 4 units there and it was midweek). Didn't look like there had been much action for some time

The 'prize' cars were never built if I remember correctly, so you were paying a tenner for something that didn't and in all likeliness won't exist. I guess it would be classed as fraud / a scam or similar at this point now?

On topic, funny how it all went quiet. Wonder when/if he'll pop up again?

i'm just as sorry for all the people who put a tenner in,including me ! all those tenners add up to a nice little nest egg to go and buy a retirement villa in Portugal.

Didn't his wife die? Suspect this contributed to his change of plans?

I agree that a lot of people got ripped off, but personally from the little I know I'm pretty sure that was not the intention from day one.

Melling is in my opinion the man that brought AJP8/6 to TVR and for that reason he is pardoned, okay its easy for me to say this because I didn't lose a tenner but I reckon his wife contributed greatly to his business with her lose it was left in tatters.

AL is a great engineer, just a lousy business man. I have the oddest feeling we will soon be writing words of condolence for him as well.

Examples of out right rip offs are NS and taking peoples deposits.

Anyway, how many Wild cats got built in the end? Who owns one?

I spent a tenner too but did not realise the winner did not receive his car, despite photos of the winning owner / car.

Melling was a great guy to talk to .. as was his wife, very sad that she has left this mortal coil ..

As with all these things AM and NS probably lost far more than any of us did .. brave even to try IMHO in this recession ridden market.

I would have kept my money in my pocket - perhaps that is what NS is doing .. waiting for better times ?

I have read for weeks the posts on piston heads but never had the bottle to join in. I knew Mrs Melling and her son personally. She was a wonderful lady and it was a real shock to me and alot of others when we were informed that she had died. Her son still lives in Rochdale and I know that he reads the posts with interest, and has done for many years.

I notice that there are alot of comments regarding the website. I hosted three websites for the company and also provided others services. My solicitor has also been to Portugal on behalf of myself and other clients of his, as I lost over £3000 (from someone who was supposed to be a personal friend). I know others have lost considerably more than this. This is the main reason that the website is down and he is not contactable by mobile phone.

I have tried other means of contacting him such as facebook and through one of the people that is mentioned in the Portuguese paper as buying the company. This seemed to be a hoax, or so I was informed. I know that there are many people that would like to talk to the guy when he is tracked down.

I apologise that the post is so long and I am hope that you do not feel, that as per the rules, I have not come on to just cause trouble. What is posted is the truth and I am just as frustrated as everyone else when I read things that genuine people have posted, and have also been ripped off. All I would hope is that if the guy reads what is posted that he faces upto what he has done and admits it.

Great and interesting post ..

It may not be beyond the realms of possibility that he is holed up in a bar and drinking himself into an early grave. After all he has lost what was probably his whole world (wife) future plans etc..

My father certainly did the same after his wife died.

You're not clear. Where exactly is that line between "ripped off" and "out right rip offs?" Do you have proof that NS planned one of these from the start? That's the only conclusion I can draw. You are almost coming off as saying "yes, it's a rip off but it's OK because he didn't originally plan it that way. If that's the case, you should reexamine your own morals.

Further, I disagree with you about anybody being pardoned for a crime only because they previously did some things that were not crimes. I also disagree about his "greatnes" but that that's all off topic and should be left in another thread.
