Has anyone had a melling engine rebuild / upgrade

Was reading the above and wondered if anyone has had any engine work done by Al Mellings company, and if so what was the results ??

Was talking to a chap at Castle Combe in June who'd had the 4.7 done to his Tuscan II. He was less that pleased that Melling had cleared off to Spain or somewhere.

Did the guy say what the 4.7 was like to live with ? Had he had any problems with it, did he give any bhp figures for it ? Cheers

He seemed happy with it. Didn't talk about raw figures TBH but he said it was faster than his old Westfield SEight.

He will do the engine rebuilds but you have to ship your engine to portugal, I was in contact with them last year. Problem is if anything goes wrong you have to send it back to portugal. I was waying up every option/possibility but decided it would be too risky. Still not decided if to go for 4.5 or 5.0? (with TVR Power) but definately wont be going LS? route.

A local guy in Hampshire went for the Melling 4.7.

He had to wait >4 months for the completion of the work. Repeated calls to the Melling works just gave later and later completion dates. When the car was returned, it had a small oil leak from the timing chest. When the leak was investigated, the inside of the cover showed evidence of weld repairs to a fairly large crack. The car was a '05 Tuscan 2 - so other than this work, nothing else had been done to the engine.

The guy was less than pleased with the whole experience!
