"Rocking"/Shunting - diff or diff bushes?

Got rocking in the diff area, which is making the shunting much worse.

Anyone hazard a guess - is it more likely to be diff itself, or diff bushes...

This loose rocking became a problem when I had to run the car home on 3 cylinders prior to rebuild (a good few months ago) - and the car was horrificly shunting for about 2 miles home, putting much load on that area...

Most likely diff or diff bushes..?

Jack the back of the car up (and use axle stands) then get a big pry bar in there and see if you can rock the diff on its mounts. If you move it around relatively easily then its the bushes in the diff mounts.

If the diff itself is rocking (from what you'r saying it is?), my guess would definatley be the bushes. Might also be worth checking the wishbone bushes etc on the rear suspension too, as the excess movement may have caused issues in other areas.

I noticed that my cerb had a slight knock or shunt when i pulled off. Turned out to be diff bushes. Had all three done at a cost of £350. There is a lot of labour time especially with the top bush. If unlike me, you can do it yourself it will only be a fraction of that cost.

Replacing the diff bushes is a bh of a job. It really is better to pay someone else to do it!

The other possibility for driveline shunt is the driveshaft CV joints.

I thought the diff bushes on the Chim were on the way out. Turned out it was the diff bolts that were loose! I was with the mechanic at Power when he was looking at it. He tightened them all up - fixed shunting!
