batery charger

can anyone tell me about these battery conditioners i have got one from halfords for only £20 but it will not plug into the fag lighter instead it conects straight to the battery if i just wire it up to a old lighter plug from say a mobile phone and plug it in will this work

Check the output specs. Generally conditions supply a lowish current which is monitored, but: 1) Make sure the current's not too high for the cigar lighter circuit. 2) Check the polarity when you wire up the adapter. 3) Mobile phone adapters are lower current, check fuses and be aware there may be unwanted regulator circuitry in the adapter. 4) You can buy a basic adapter from Tandys and probably Halfords. Just run a wire from the battery terminals to a male/female connector, wire the other side of the connector to your charger, then you can connect/disconnect in a couple of seconds.
