DIY wheel re-ferb.

Really don't know if this is the right place here on PH to ask but here goes... Now that the engine is coming back out of the Cerb i've got all the wheels off it for various reasons and can't help but look at the Spiders and think about giving them a `once over`. There is the odd curb mark on them here n there and a few of the spokes have had a ding or two.

We have here in work some chemical metal and plenty of sanding paper/emery cloth so was thinking about rubbing the wheels down, using the chemical metal to fill the `holes`, rub it back so it's smooth and then re-spray them in a nice silver similar to the color they are now.

Has anybody done a D.I.Y wheel re-ferb on here and how did you get on?

I 'DIY' refurbed the Imolas on my Chim.

They were scuffed and worn but not kerbed - cleaned them, sanded them down (emry), sprayed them and laquered them - Looked good!

Not sure the more intricate spiders would be as easy, especially if kerbed, deep scratches, etc..?

Why not give one a go and if you are not happy then get if refurbed professionally along with the rest?

Thanks for the reply Pete. I think i'll be able to get a nice profile on the Spiders if i need to rub them down. I'll post some pictures up on here either later or tomorrow to show you what i'm talking about with regard to the damage on them. Have you any before and after pictures?

I had great plans once for constructing a "cool" coffee table from it once, but I'm too lazy. It's gathering dust with the other spiders...

Didnt take any photos...so sorry, cant help there. Trying a practice wheel sounds like a good idea though.
