Dying Carpets

Hi all,

My interior is cream but stained. So I was thinking of dying them dark blue. I have looked here and some people are saying try Leather Magic but after 3 emails and a call they dont answer, I think I will give them a miss.

Can anyone please recommend any dye products they have used that didnt come off on clothes etc when its finished please?

Have a look at www.frost.co.uk under interiors. The VHT vinyl dye 'midnight blue' bears no relation to the blue on the colour chart, but it is extremely effective. Three tins did two T350 seats. This stuff also does carpet. £8/325ml tin

Interior coat does leather, £14/400ml tin, I haven't tried it.

Use magic eraser and then leather conditioner and it will return to new at a cost of about 3 quid!

Confused here as the title mentions dying carpets but then the text asks about leather...am I missing something or are you looking to do both?

Mike, do you think this will be ok on the carpets? It looks like a general purpose dye which I hear comes off easily. Do you know anyone thats tried it?

My carpets went green/blue from navy due to fading from lid off. Bought some dylon poweder from wilkinsons and did all the carpet and came out really well. I got blue dye on the cream leather and it wiped off with one stroke of a magic eraser so you can actually do it simply, cheaply and messily without worrying about it. My kind of job!

According to Dylon you have to soak it in a bowl of dye, then rinse out in a bowl of water.
How big a bowl did you need for your carpets?

Depends - wool carpets were an option.

Good point re the bowl. All you do is mix up dylon, salt (apparently this helps the dye stick to the fabric) and warm water. Mask over the piping on the carpet and seats etc and then apply with a sponge. Ideally do it on a hot summer day to dry it. Also, driving around is good although I did get a blue stripe on my leg. Then vacuum thoroughly otherwise you'll get blue legs again.

Left it with masking tape on and then left in the garage for a week. Took tape off and hey presto! Blue caprtets again. Being clumsy, some of the dye got on the seats and under the masking tape which was my moment of panic (one week of drying on!), then got the eraser, one wipe, and it was clean. Looked like new.
