chimaera please help newbie

hi there can anybody please help i have recently bought a brill tvr chimaera 400 1999 model and the oil pressure gauge has just stopped working,the light on the dash isnt coming on though, the red one that is, there is plenty of oil in engine car runs fine,took it to a local auto electrician he renewed the connector near the sender unit, he reckons the sender is ok cos he did some sort of test on it,he reckons its either the wire faulty that goes from sender to the gauge on dash or the actual gauge is bust,but he has no idea how to get gauge out of dash to do a test on wire or the gauge can anyone advise how to get gauge out?do you have to remove dash and if so any idea how to do this? also another question dont forget im new to tvrs under the dash on passenger side just to the right of the pocket there is a hole that looks like it should have something in it,looks a bit like the hole you would put a cig lighter in,should there be a switch of some sort in it please please help also is there anybody who knows stuff about tvrs who lives nr beckingham in notts cos i would love to have a chat,cheers dave

Only way to get the dials out is by removing the dash top. It's only 3 nuts but a little fiddly. A simple test to see if it is the gauge is to earth the cable to the engine block - this should cause the gauge to read maximum, but I would imagine the spark checked that already.
