Griffith / Chimaera cracked manifold

removed manifolds to replace blown gaskets, found one of the manifold (after leak test) to have a crack somewhere up where the 4 branches join.

I'm not in a location that is easy to source a new, used or ACT replacement so with nothing to loose (as its useless anyway) was going to have a go at repairing it.

anyone had a go with success or am I wasting my time?

think of cutting off shortest pipe near joint so i can access other three joints, find crack etc, weld up then weld removed pipe back into position.

any thoughts? if its just corrosion then there probably wont be anything there to work with....

Very easy repair,split in front of 4 into 1,weld up holes and reweld where you cut into the manifold..roberts your relative !

thanks Mark, went in through one of the branches in the end, found the culprit, just need to weld back up now. interestingly there is hardly any corrosion & pipes seem to have their full gauge intact.

Hope i didn't mislead you with my previous reply but if you cut the manifold in the big single section you can attack all 4 pipes from the inside just make sure you mark it well to realine properly when you are finished.

Here's my manifold repair - it might help when you're trying to figure out how to weld it back together - though I say so myself the technique worked well.
