It looks a bit like something I found in my Griff, I assumed it was a proximity sensor for the orignal alarm system - I have an aftermarket alarm system and removed that black box with no obvious detriment to the alarm/car.

It's either the movement sensor for the alarm or the transceiver for the central locking keyfob. Probably the former.

Yes, the former I believe
