Toyos???

What are Toyo Proxys like?

I have a set of S3 Wheels with new Pirelli P6000 on. Apparently these aren't too good.

My current S1 style wheels have S02s, but I don't think I can afford these again.

What are my options?

I'm looking for 205/55, 205/60 15s.

Kin excellent value tyre, works well on my Griff and was the chosen marque by the factory for a while. Not as good as the much lamented SO 2 but that's another story

I ordered 4 Toyo Proxes 235/40/18 & 245/40/18 for £471 inc vat and delivery. The lowest price I could find elsewhere was £575.00 inc vat.

Hmmmm.. the Toyos are cheaper than my P6000. I wonder if there's a way I could trade them in or somthing.

The Toyos are £50 each.

What about Bridgestone RE 720s??

Toyo's are the all rounder. They give excellent road driving grip and are not too skittish on corners. There are much better tyres out there but you need to decide what you're using them for. If you only use your car on road then Toyo's make good sense and are cheap as well.

Just put them on mine to replace worn out SO2s. Can't really notice much difference - maybe slightly "softer"? Got mine from Mytyres.co.uk for £250 for all 4.

Road going is what I want. I may try and sell the P6000s.

Are you sure you've got the right rating etc?

excellent tyre i wont use anything else now, my sd1 mod saloon racer had to use yoko's and then we switched to toyo and my lap times droped by nearly two seconds and in the wet you feel like its dry!!

When I looked at getting Toyos for my Chim, MyTyres didn't list the Z rated 205/55R15 for the front, and on emailing them, they stated that they didn't stock them!
Are you using a different size on the front, or have they started listing the Z rated ones?

Apparently they do now do a Z rated front......(read it on another thread a couple of nights ago whilst trying to decide which rears to get for mine)

I knew Toyo do them, but MyTyres said they couldn't get them. Ended up getting them at the local Toyo "dealer".... more then £250 for the 4 too

Just put Toyo's on my Griff and i have to say the Goodyear F1's i had previously were a far better tyre for grip and they lasted for 11000 miles,even with my driving...zz

I'm not disagreeing with you zz but you have changed the wheels from 15/16" to 18". Could that contribute to what you're experiencing?

I went for the V rated tyres. I don't think my S will ever pass 120mph let alone 149mph.

They are 205/55/15s at 49.00 each.

tyres with the wrong speed rating are still illegal, even if you never exceed the lower speed. the biggest problem is that in the event of an accident the insurance company will claim that the car is unroadworthy (cos it has the wrong tyres on) and will not pay out.

slight chance you will have problems with sharp eyed mot testers or bibs also.

i prefer to pay the extra for the peace of mind on these points, myself.
