The problem with buying a TVR...
Discussion
Is that so many interior colour schemes seem to have been chosen by the registered blind or those of a questionable mental state.
How often have I seen a lovely looking Tuscan or T350 only to find on closer inspection the interior representing the aftermath of a Bada Meinhof shooting or a 3 year old's party. I swear I've seen buckets of vomit with more artistic coordination and merit.
So, my question is how much should one budget on re upholstring the entire cabin of a Tuscan or T350 ?

Varying quotes dependent on who you go to, but I would wager £3k + VAT won't be far off to include re-carpetting, dash leather and alcantara elements. Not sure this includes seat recovering though. Vee8 said:

Why not buy one with an interior you like, there are plenty without garish interiors? How often have I seen a lovely looking Tuscan or T350 only to find on closer inspection the interior representing the aftermath of a Bada Meinhof shooting or a 3 year old's party. Err, I'd see some finished in the flesh before I'd decide.
Interesting, there's a certain person on here who extols the virtues of both of these companies
, just goes to show one mans top work is another mans pile of s

k-up that get the 'press' though - understandably from the point of view of the recipient of said f
k-up. It may well be an expensive mistake from their POV. It's useful to know when there is an issue so I'm grateful to macdeb for letting us know. I've met him and he's someone whose opinion I take seriously, but I think overall I have formed a good opinion of the company. I know of a few of my company's (ex-)customers that wouldn't touch us with a barge-pole because we let them down, likely because of something outside our control I hope, but s
t happens. You just have to move on. If we were consistently bad we wouldn't still be here, certainly not as busy or successful as we are. Same for them I'd guess.PS. I have never used the company mentioned, mostly heard good stuff though.

Neither would be my first choice on cost and or quality.
Foot note:
My personal opinion which I do not belive breaches any name and shame rule.

I agree with macdeb. The companies that evolved post TVR are the most recommended on here to do work - the enthusiasm that folk recommned them on here is admirable. However, recomendations should come with a health warning. Personally I find both companies very expensive for the work they do, and having seen much of their work neither meet the standards that I would want.

That's interesting John. I've just bought a full carpet set from D&C. Only arrived yesterday, but my initial impression is favourable. I'll really see once I start to fit them. However, are these (and S&D) not exactly the same people who were working on the production TVR's? At the risk of making a sweeping generalisation, although I'm sure build quality must have improved over the years, I don't think it's necessarily the priority for a potential owner (of a new or used car). If owners were generally happy with the build quality when new, would they not be equally satisfied with post-production work? Unfortunately, I cannot speak from experience of having owned a new car, only used, so maybe I'm unaware of quality issues. 7.
Generalisation?
Paintwork faults were the norm with new, as were badly finshed body panels and join lines. Anyone that wants to tell me the later cars were'nt like that can save their breath - they were improved, but still lacking.
Glue that was never cleaned from the parts it was never intended for, and not enough material or glue to fix said stretched material were also pretty much par for the course.
That was part of TVR ownership and you got what you got pretty much, some were luckier than others. The dealer input to a happy owner was key.
Painting a car or trimming a car is a different matter - knowledge of TVRs not essential. You can get very high quality work done at less cost if you're prepared to look in more than one shop window. The peolpe that compete in these windows are not pricing as if their market is niche.
