Lost the plot ?

Needed a couple of brake pipe nuts last Saturday, never been a big fan of Halfords but they are near by so popped in.
"Got a couple of 10mm pipe nuts please ?"

"No, we don't keep them. Could try our Leamington store". (Leamington is about 20 miles away)

Is this just the way things are going, less and less people doing their own servicing/repairs ?

You need a motor factor like Camberly auto factors or maybe Brake & clutch, Halfords are pretty hopeless if you are a DIY mechanic sadly!

Wont even try Halfords for stuff like that,have a local "car spares" outlet that sorts me out

yeah, but they do sell gear knobs with flashing LEDs on.......

they could not help you as you did not go in to buy a stereo and a sub. Local motorfactors will usually have all these things in stock

Would normally use my (very good) local motor factor but Halfords is nearer and thought would save bit of time,
