does anyone has experience with a 6-speed gearbox fw on a tvr? at 125mph my tuscan rev. 4400tpm. in 5 gear. at 150mph my lotus omaga rev. 3000tpm in 6 gear. the torque of a tuscan is sufficient to rev. a 6- speed gb. with a 6-speed gb. jou have more comfort and less "wear and tear" on long-distance.

I was under the impression that regardless of how many gears you have the "top" usually equates to the (or thereabouts) original fifth gear of a five speed box. Cramming more gears in allows the more "flexible" engines to be exploited, filling the gaps of the less geared gearboxes. Much like a motorbike?

It don't have to acceterate in 6.I mean a kind of overdrive.

A 6 speed box won't do you much good in a TVR, as you've got such a wide power band you don't need a particularly close set of ratio's.

veryplast's point, if I read it right, is to pretty much keep the existing 5 ratios as they are, but add a 6th gear as overdrive, dropping the revs to, like, 1500 or 2000 rpm at cruising velocity (whatever *that* is ) It would make long distance motoring (you know, halfway across europe) a lot less tiring on the ears.

so that new close ratio Tuscan Speed 6 'box (the one that everyone's raving about) will be a complete waste of money then!?!?!?

Odd how everyone's raving about it, but I've only actually heard of one car that it's been fitted to, and that was delivered on Saturday. I didn't think it was a close ratio box, so much as a different ratio box. Similar to the one I've got for the Cerbera (not supplied by TVR, but it's the one that they apparently based their design on). The ratio's are just better suited to the power delivery of the 4.5 AJP8 (in my case) than the standard box, which is the same as fitted to the Griff and Chimaera. James

I've had the new box attached to my tuscan for the last 3 Weeks. The box was retro fitted at the 1000 Mile service as it did not come with the car on delivery. It makes a huge difference to the acceleration!!!
