Trumpets and weird bolt on RV8 - help!

It's actually on a Chim, but seeing as other TVR's use this engine I was wondering if anyone here has managed to remove the trumpets from the manifold base (in order to trim about 15mm off each one) as I sure as hell can't get them out. They look pretty deep to me:



Are they just pressed in, or do I need to heat the manifold up a bit and get some expansion on the go?

Also, wanted to remove and repaint the rocker covers, but I'll be fecked if I can find a socket that fits this little bastid:



The 3/8 drive sockets have the right heads on (tried 8mm, 9mm and imperial) but the necks are too wide. The 1/4 sockets are narrow enough, but won't grip. It's not some oddball thing I need a special socket for is it? I've already bought some proper stainless allen key ones, and I can hear the drill warming up!

The trumpets will walk out with a good heat in the oven (wait 'til she goes out), perhaps a broom handle inserted to give some levarage...

With the rocker cover screws, it's just a case of finding some 12 point sockets that are 'thin' enough to go in the recess... they are out there. Mine is a 3/8 drive 'deep' one (has a long nose that waists down from the drive end)

The rocker covers are just a multi splin socket i bought some from Halfords as i need some any way as bellow.





As for your trumpets they are "glued" in with somthing not sure what someone will know i used a bucket and boiling hot water on the base and they came out ok.

Recently used a blow lamp, no problem, just keep wiggling !

Watch your teeth when you're doing this, as I broke one of my front teeth when trying to get the trumpets out of an old trumpet base. Cost a fng fortune to get my tooth crowned.

Tight fitting piece of wood/metal/plastic down the trumpet inner and wiggle out in a roundy roundy movement

Cheers for the advice guys, they came out fine in the end and I used some JB weld to refit. All good as new!
Now just have to wait and see if it drives any better.
