I live in Australia & recently imported a 1976 TVR 3000m, it came with the yellow rear registration plate [original, so I am told]. I have been told that these plates are valuable, is this correct? If it is correct how & where can I obtain a fair valuation & where do I sell it? These plates are illegal here so I may as well sell it. Awaiting any suggestions,

Can't help on the number plate front sorry but FYI I know of at least one 3000M here, a yellow one in Victoria.

Usually only valuable if it spells a name or word etc. I doubt that an original 1976 plate would be worth anything, but what's the reg? If it is worth something (and if you retained rights to it when de-registered/exported) then ebay, reg plate resellers etc...

The plate itself has little or no value, if you have a UK retention certificate, allowing the tranfer of the rights to use that number AND the number is of interest to someboy, then it may be worth something. To get a retention cert or transfer the number, the car needs to be in the UK, taxed,insured and with a valid MOT

If the car is in Aus and you dont have a retention certificate, then its worth nothing (by the time you've shipped the car back, paid for insurance/mot etc)

As per above posts you need the car to have a valid MOT plus you need the V5. If you have these then I dont know if the car being abroad will be an issue - I guess the V5 registered keeper will be the one needing to sort and I guess with the car abroad this might be a challenge.

The plate, however, isnt of any singificant value IMHO. Maybe a few hundred to someone with those initials.

Thanks everyone for your info, I was not sure on the UK licencing laws, but I am better informed now. Thanks also for the info on the yellow TVR 3000M in Victoria Aust, I will try & contact the owner.This is my first use of this site & the responce has been great, thanks to all who replied.

I'll try to when it is registered, but in Western Australia there aren't too many "famous/exotic" locations but I'll post some of our local beauty spots with our great climate. Today fine & 37c.

That is actually a 1969 / 1970 UK plate and here would be worth a few hundred pounds at the most. Only the plates without the last letter (the H etc) are true chesished plates and worth more - ie if it were TWN 1 it would be about £3000+. It is short (most have 3 numbers, ie 7 digits total) so would look ok on most cars and a bit more interesting than normal.

However as mentioned already, you can only transfer a plate if it has a valid MOT, and often on older cars they will request to see the vehicle too. Yours is therefore only worth novelty value to you unfortunately.

This used to be on a brown 3000M, is it the same car? I know of one of its previous owners.
