Would Be Tuscan owner joins the forum with a dirty question

Hi folks, hoping to join the TVR community soon but in the meantime I have a question about the slapdash application of glue (I presume). While looking at a number of cars especially those with light colour interiors there seems to be a fair amount of discolured leather around the join areas which seems to be due to excess glue application. Has anyone found a method of cleaning this up or a suitable solvent for removal? It seems like a bit of a petty observation but it often spoils some tidy interiors........

On a similar note are there any trimmers who specialise in TVRs and their unique interiors?

not sure about solvent use on Leather

D & C Trim in Blackpool (Bristol Avenue) are the ex-factory trimmers. Have seen some of their work and it is spot on.

He dose have a point there are some stains in mine on the carpets, however if they are put back together in the correct way you can not see them.

For example I have had to take my centre console out to fit a trickle charge point. There is a few glue marks on the carpet under the console an if the console isn't put back correctly they will show.

I learnt a trick for removing glue whilst bulding a kit cobra a few years back, use a very light engine oil - rubbing the glue affected area with a cloth and majically the excess glue / marks come off. Well it worked for me at the time but I advise testing on an area in a less obvious location 1st.

Good shout about DandC Trimmers - but I think a complete re-trim might be a bit OTT at the moment

I think the cleaning tips are the thing - any general ideas on leather care/refurbishment?

Duh! just did a search on leather care and found a whole raft of stuff including 'Magic Sponge' and Liquid Leather refurbishment - that should keep me occupied for hours just reading let alone actually cleaning stuff.

Magic sponge is ...well.. magic really. Used it on the chim interior and discovered it was a whole different shade of gray ! What it wont do is fix areas that have been stained - not sure if glue is just a surface mark that can be removed or if it actually stains the leather/vinyl. If its surface marking magic sponge will sort it.

Don't panic, wait until it dries, and it just flakes off.

When I opened this thread I was fully expecting a "how-to" guide as to the possible positions for doing it in a Tuscan.

The only method I can think of for it to work is to do it in the garage with the roof off - that should work.

Light might be a problem when cleaning the leather, though...

white spirit will also work to remove any access glue
