Tesco 99 or Shell 99

Probably been done before but, as we have just had a new Tesco store and filling station built, right next to our Shell station both with 99 ron, whats peoples view on super market fuel as apposed to the Tivs favorite drink.

It may have a decent RON value, but is inferior in other ways IIRC, doesnt it contain a lot of bioethanol?

I'm told that Shell has all the nice cleaners and additives in, and that is what I usually use. I have used Tesco 99 with no apparent adverse effects, but given the choice I'd stick with Shell..

Out of the two, Vpower every time. I don't trust Tesco's after they took some time to react over the faulty fuel problem (some might say enough time to sell the fuel).

My thoughts also, but still interested in others views, iv'e got a mate with a 4.6 Chim and he uses S/M fuel no issues with his.

In a recent survey Tesco 99 came out best for power.
It registered something like 97 octane on average.

However, I still use V power for the reasons below...and if its good enough for F1...

V-Power every time for me However, when caught out Tesco or Sainsbury 99 RON stuff has worked much better than that over priced crap BP sell which has never worked in my car, it either missfires or runs lean on it.

but do you trust Shell after it was revealed Optimax used to lose its octane over short periods of time like rats deserting a sinking ship

I will never trust Shell anain after the Formula Shell debacle caused the early demise of a number of engines in the 1980s. The only people who got any recompense were those who could prove (fleets etc.) that they used only Formula Shell in thier broken engines, of course engine manufacturers were able to avoid paying out because the owners could not prove the opposite.

You will probably find that the most of the fuel in your area comes from the same refinery, this will mean that the quality of the fuel will likely be very similar. The only difference will be the additives that Shell add vs what Tesco's may or may not add.

Similar that many oils may come from the same place, but the additive pack is the important part

When I took my T350 into TVR power they told me to steer clear of Tesco fuel and only run it on Shell.
I trust what Dom tells me lol

I would stick with vpower. I heard a rather worrying story recently whereby tesco 99 caused the demise of several rally car engines during an event sponsored by the fuel due to low octane levels. Maybe a bad batch of fuel, but where do you stand if a fuel kills your engine? Very hard to prove I would have thought?
