Now I'm looking for some answers regarding TVR.
I would like to know what peoples thoughts are on the demise of TVR. Was it the sale of the company to the Russian? Was it the build quality? Was it the Electrics? Reliability? Own Engines, What?.
Personally I think it was a combination fo a couple of the above and one other, Rumours! I've not had a serious problem with my car in 18 month, nothing worse than what could happen in any other car.
The sale of the company to the Russian was always going to be bad for TVR, he had no heart and soulf for the company and when things started to get a bit hard and not making as much money as he thought, he decided it was time to close.
I don't particularly think that reliability, lead directly to the closure/less sales etc, I think that if they had stuck to using other engines the company would still be up and running today. Obviously the AJP was still a good engine, but there were problems early on with them as we know, then there was the early S6 engines, less said about that the better, all this then gave the company the reputationi of being unreliable as those who didnt own the cars dissed them so much that others looking to buy were put off.
Just imagine what could have been if the AJP and the S6 weren't produced, would they have still had the "unreliable" tag hanging over thier heads?
Electronics, now I know that some cars have had issues, not sure how serious for most, but mine was sorted over the phone. Could this have had an effect? however, I dont feel that this could have been a mojor problem, electronics arent too hard. Could it?
So what are your thoughts on why TVR went to the depths, probably never to return.....certainly not in the lairy way it used to roam the lands.

Rumors and people listening to the uneducated news, kinda like the scare mongering that goes on for anything else (swineflu) and peoples inability to read into a subject and make their own informed decision. 3 fab years of Tuscan ownership, with nothing other than what you would expect from a supercar.

The demise of TVR was not caused by the sale to the Russian. It was already mortally wounded and if he had done his homework then he wouldnt have bought it.
The demise was caused by (IMHO):-
-> A saturated market - in the late 90s TVR enjoyed a market place much to themselves. that changed in the latter years.
-> Low margins - tvrs were labour intensive to make and so the margins were low (if any)
-> Speed 6 (enough said) - warranty strain, reputation, dealer pains, customer base moving to other marques.
-> Low tech - TVR refused to move with the times, or they were unable to move with the times. People want everything from a car eg speed, thrills, handling, steering, gadgets, safety etc.... TVR cant deliver this. Which too many of us this is a good thing but not to the mass market who still see TVR as kit car like.

A lot of people want a car that can go fast and be driven hard - for the image - but actually will only ever pootle around in it going to work, the shops and the like. For that market, which is where the volume and ca$h is, you need the driver aids.
