I am doing my chassis just now and yours looks far too good puts mine to shame

I am having issues getting the old waxoyl off and the old powder coating is coming off too as it is past its best and just trapping moisture in there think i will use blue steal when i get it clean enough then POR15 it.

Think this will keep me busy for the next few weeks and no holes or week points think i am just in time.

Oh and i dont think i could edit video at all you would get some very Graphic stuff of mine if i tried to do a TVR video

Have you tried WD40 to remove the Waxoil it works wonders with old engine oil and road grime also offers more protection than stripping it off with degreasant

Hi Quinny, really enjoying your videos !
I recently dropped my diff and used a couple of straps slung over the top of the chassis, one fixed to the front flange and one around an output flange. It's surprising the angle you need on it to lower it out.
That garage floor is looking grubby !! LOL

Nice work on protecting against the dreaded cable ties Andy, did you find yours had previously chewed the coating up badly?

Have you considered giving the underside of the body a lick of POR/epoxy? It always bothers me that chips will allow water into the fibre and then the dreaded delamination.. The POR certainly goes a long way and on very easily when covering the gf

I thought the POR15 silver topcoat wasnt UV sensitive

Inside my grill (undertray) is all coated with POR silver and it shows no signs of degradation after 3+ years. All the chassis, wheel arches and inner wings painted in POR black also have no signs of discoloration?

Not so bad on the Griff, but the inside of the Chim mouth can be like a bath tub! Covering cracks in the gel coat and any areas that were on the outside of the mould to prevent water ingress to the laminate seems very sensible to me.

Don't know about yours Andy, but I was fairly convinced that most of the rust on my chassis was from the cable ties breaking the coating. For my 2p worth mesh under the outriggers should protect from stones and allow drying. I also put strips of rubber on the triangulated members that run down to the outriggers to divert water flowing down them - don't really know how effective but was easy to do

Think this is a great idea to vid the work,it makes it look more simple of a job when someone is talking you through.
You are the walking talking Haynes Manual.
Keep the vids coming please as we may all start stripping cars apart after this..

Just got in from re-fitting the diff You wouldn't want that on video.... Definitly X rated on the language front Ache all over now

Having the car really high only means that falling diff is even more dangerous

There is a knack to it, if you can get the nose hung over the xmember then brace across the rear so you can take a break...prior to the big lift & twist...

I PMSL when Tubbs (Mr Gym ) didn't quite make the clean & jerk followed by the ball(breaking)istic lump of iron wrestling him down in his pit

Thanks for posting! I'm about to take my Chim off the road for a month or two for a bit of a chassis clean up. Not going as far as taking much apart except the suspension bit but these vids should still come in handy

+1, still a bit of a fiddle. leave everything loose till all the bolts are in.
