The Tuscan is available with TVRs own close ratio gear box, this has been advertised for a while, but cars are now arriving with the close ratio box fitted. 4th and 5th gears are the same ratio, but 1st, 2nd and 3rd are geared a bit higher than the standard T-5 box ================ Graham and Rosie

I believe these gearboxes are made by Glebe Precision, if they were made by TVR, they would not work! The home of the boy racers and the rallymen of Wales

Leon, Andrew's not alone in his thoughts. People come here because on the whole they're TVR enthusiasts. We all know TVR are far from perfect and open informative, debate is always welcome, but your boring slagging off is of little interest to most of us. Ted

I was under the impression the later boxes where of the T55 coding as in the US mustangs etc? I know Glebe have developed the box. What about the aussie Hollinger boxes, don't discount them! Good luck to TVR in entering the g'box department it always seems to be the weak link in most performance cars power train.

I work with TVR`s every day and I hear news on this Forum that I have never heard before ! I do not presently know of any new gearboxes, the T5 box is still going strong and only the diff`s are different. By the way if you are buying a new TVR always specify the Hydratrak Diff, there is a big difference when driving hard. If anyone knows more about a new gearbox please e-mail me, I would love to know.

The new gearbox is the one that TVR have been advertising as available for the Tuscan since it's launch, only it has now started arriving on customer cars. If you haven't seen any and would like a look, call Fernhurts as they have customer cars already arrived with the close ratio gearbox - possibly other dealers have as well, but I know for sure that Fernies have! Have you tried calling the TVR factory? I would have thought they would have been able to answer any questions you have about the new gearbox. As for the Hydrotrack, well I keep hearing different reports on how much use it is. What I have heard is that Hydrotrack keeps the back end gripping longer, but when it lets go it is a bit more sudden and harder to catch - I guess the best thing is to try both and decide if the extra money is worth it. What is it about Hydrotrack that you think is better? (Just interested in another view on it) Cheers ================ Graham and Rosie

My 4.2 had a h. diff. my 4.5 no.H. diff.is very good for drivers who have not a lot of race experience! My first accident on circiut was with the 4.5.Without h. diff. your reactoins must be VERY fast!

Is Hydrotrak not standard on the 4.5 & optional on the 4.2?When I went up to the factory last year noticed a lot of Tuscan's were being fitted with Hydrotrak, although after reading the technical data on this decided not to bother. For "normal" road use I could not tell the difference, although I suppose it may have benefits for track use. I think I`d better research the new gearbox as I have had zero information disclosed to me. As for Hydrotrak Diffs I honestly believe they are the best for your TVR. I have driven many 1000`s of miles of English roads (quickly!!!) and I think the extra grip is well worthwhile. Tuscan`s especially because of the shorter wheelbase. In terms of the Hydrotrak being less predictable I would have to disagree with this. I have never lost a TVR in battle yet, I am no Schumacher, but I have a creditable history in Group B Rallying (Opel Manta 400`s) and Touring cars (Mitsubishi)which I think allows me an informed view on car control. I don`t wish to upset anyone`s views, but any day of the week I`d rather have a Hydrotrak diff to a stardard unit. Edited by TVR Engineer on Sunday 25th February 00:40
