Whats the difference for example between a Wedge V8 and a Griff, and for that matter the AJP. And then they come up with the straight 6 and V12, which I understand is fabricated (?) rather than cast. Be gentle.

The Rover V8 in the wedges, and in some early griffs is Ex SD1 based and so will have a non-serpentine / vee belt and also won't be cross bolted like the later Land-rover based blocks. Other that that apart from differences in Bore, stroke, valve sizes, induction systems, camshaft profile and engine managment it's basically the same engine.
The AJP is a completly TVR / Al Melling own design and was originally intended to be a racing engine I even saw it bolted into the back of some F3000 single seater type thing at one motor show. Its a completly different construction to the Rover and is a much smaller, compact unit, as well being overhead cam and dry sumped from the outset.
That said with the problems they've had with it, I'd have just done some 4 valve heads for the old faithful rover block and carried on using that. They could have made a packet on the aftermarket possibilities as well, I'd have bought some anyway.
