Is it any cop, in a 97 Chimaera, for anything but lighting fags? Specifically, I want to plug an 240 inverter into it to power my laptop on the move.

It has a 15amp fuse in the cigarette lighter adapter. Will I be pushing my luck?

Eventually, I'll get it wired into the battery directly, but for now...

15 amp is massive overkill, your inverter/laptop combo won't take a fraction of that. I've done the lighter socket/inverter/laptop thing on other cars no problem and I would expect it to work just as well on your TVR. I'd probably fit a 3 amp fuse though, if the inverter draws more than that there's probably something going wrong somewhere.

Having read the instructions (hey, I'm in I.T., that's a first) they do say that the 15 amp fuse is just a backstop in case the internal regulating functions in the inverter fail.

So, I'll give it a spin and see how it goes.

Maplins do a few. Just search for inverters and they give info on the output.

I have an inverter from a company called Moore Power.

Seems quite good. There's a website;

www.moore-power.co.uk/

I hope you do mean to actualy stop while you use the laptop, though!!!

I already have the inverter - from Maplin as it happens.

The laptop will either be on and in a box on the floor, or fettled by a passenger. I just have to drive, which is the way I like it.
