AVO Shocks have had a bit of Bad Press in the TVR world.
After having Problems myself I posted on here to se if anyone had similar problems and they all seemed to be related.
After a couple of sets of bushes and a few emails to Nigel at AVO he asked me to Bring the car down to his factory and he promised I would leave Happy and the car would be set up perfect.
So I took Nigel up on his promise and jumped straight on the M6 and headed south.
1st Problem was the bushes failing so they were replace from poly to steel bushes
2nd Problem was the colit on the top of the shock that is surplied so the shock does not hit the upper wishbone.
This was to long and limited the travel.
While I was there his race tec made a new set on the lathe and fitted them giving the shock full travel .
By dinner time i was back on the M6 north and I have to say they Have been perfect since.

I had the same problem, 2 sets of bushes in 6months, i rang the nearest AVO franchise and they sent me out 4 spacers, bearings and circlips the next day, heard other people are paying £80, depends on the Broker i think, they are a hell of alot better than the bushes although i had a bit of play in one bearing that i sent back(and got another one sent) free of charge.so i think its look of the draw if you get them for free as i did?
Didn't mention, spoke to AVO direct and replacements were supplied ( shocks bought through agent ) haven't checked since to see if doing any better.
Man at AVO reckons there's a suspension geometry problem on TVR ( S series ) that screws them up. Didn't offer spherical bearings however, but suggested "old fashioned" metalastic type bushes, if I could find some somewhere !

I was told the same - and they sent me some new bushes out free.Man at AVO reckons there's a suspension geometry problem on TVR ( S series ) that screws them up. Didn't offer spherical bearings however, but suggested "old fashioned" metalastic type bushes, if I could find some somewhere !
Replacement metal & rubber bushes available from Merlin Motorsport.
what i dont understand is: ths AVO bush issue is going through the www nearly for all brands of cars.
the bush used by AVO is nothing so special....so why a polybush fitted to an AVO gets damaged but not in a GAZ or Protec or Spax?
watching the pics with the damage the bushes must have rotated inside the shock´s eye and therefore perished.
the shock, under no circumstances, should rotate over the bush. there must be somethign wrong how the shocks are mounted in the car or the length of the inner steel-sleeve is not matching well.

Gaz protech and spax (never used spax so not 100 percent sure) don't use poly bushes.the bush used by AVO is nothing so special....so why a polybush fitted to an AVO gets damaged but not in a GAZ or Protec or Spax?

The issue as detailed already is that a poly bush only bears the load on one small part, and deforms. A bonded bush bears the load (to a greater/ lesser extent depending on position) around the whole bush. A poly bush should never be used in such an application, and it's taken them about 2 decades to sort it out.
