Did anyone see Baroness Scotland being interviewed by Jeremy Paxman last night? Earlier in the day I had heard her being interviewed on Radio 4, IMHO I have never heard such a self opinionated arguement in my life.For those who do not know what I am talking about it's the governments preposal to impose a surcharge on speeding fines and the like.I am afraid Baroness Scotland came across very much as I am right and you are totally wrong and I don't care anyway.
While I agree that compensation is justified where a breadwinner is either killed or prevented from earning a living I can never see how money can ever make the loss of a family member any easier.When a child is killed in an accident does money soften the blow to the parents? I doubt it entirely. Baroness Scotland's arguement that she had seen the anguish of such families was merely emotional blackmail and an excuse to pile the agony on to the motorist, an easy touch for raising money.I think it was all summed up by her girly giggle at the end of the Paxman interview,
