Am I just imagining it or did they..............?
Discussion
Just sitting at work reading today's Autocar whilst having a Starbucks (grande Latte with an extra shot - highly recommended) and they have an article on the Sagaris and Typhon.
Now in this article they state that the Typhon is TVRs first supercharged model. I seem to recall a supercharged version of the wedge (450 SX I think was its name). Was this TVR's own car, was it a conversion (Turbo Technics or someone?) or am I just imagining things?
And whilst we are on the subject, am I the only one that thinks TVR is really losing its way on the styling front? To go from the Griffith to these monstrosities is an absolute travesty in my opinion.

How many times do we have to keep reminding ourselves that the Sagaris was designed with track aerodunamics in mind?
They're not always pretty but they work.
Typhon vs Griffith? Both beautiful designs.
TVR are not losing the plot, just finding new ones!

Sx was done by one of dealers if I remember rightly. There's an article on it on the model guide in PH somewhere. (I learnt that about 2 weeks ago when one was advertised for sale in the classifieds).

That's the one! Well done, I'm not going mad - well no more than usual!!
And sorry, I still think they are awful looking cars. Even the Tamora and T350 don't do it for me, but I am an old-school fan (S, Griffith, Racing Tuscan)

It was the 350SX, by Haughins. It had a Sprintex turbocharger, developed by Sprintex and Haughins together.
They also uprated the suspension and brakes. The power output was roughly equivalent to a 390SE.
I have the Autocar where they reviewed it back in the late 80's too. If they had only checked their own archive they could have got the Typhon story right!

Well, I suppose it is the first supercharged TVR out of the factory (as the others were done at a TVR dealer). I'm not sure what the deal was regarding warranty (i.e whether TVR considered it a standard car and would therefore repair if it failed in the first couple of years).

Personally, I don't believe the body was designed for aerodyamic effect (if it was, then they have some pretty unconventional ideas about how aerodynamics work). I think it was styled for visual effect and 'wow' factor. Personally, I think it looks like a batmobile dsigned by a class of seven year olds who have all wanted to add their own little detail to the design. Maybe it'll look better in the flesh? At least it will get you noticed, which I'm sure was the aim!
I thought the Sagaris was horrid when I saw the pictures on here. But we saw it in the flesh at MPH03 & I have to tell you its a stunner.
A group of 12 of us went to see it & we all changed our minds as soon as we walked around the car.
The vents do look a little odd, but they are there to help create downforce when the car is travelling at speed, by releaseing air from within the wheel arches.
This is what we were told anyway...what do I know.
I would be happy to have in in the garage next to the Griff.

(sorry if Im going over old ground here)

The thing about styling is that it only has the shock effect the first few times. Once everyone has seen it, it's old hat and things move on. Look at the Ford Sierra; a car so hideous that nobody would buy it at first. Given time of course, everyone had one.
Look at the more recent Ford offerings; all this 'new edge' bollocks. Strangely, there are certain lines of some of TVRs that look similar to thse of Puma et al (windows, shut lines and so on) - because these are things 'of the moment'. In a couple of years someone will bring out, say, a wedge-shaped car and suddenly the other manufacturers will all have a wedge in their range...

Also went to Gorners today, for the second time over this Xmas period. The Sagaris really does look stunning in the flesh with some lovely detail but have to admit the pics do not do it justice. I did think of Dan Dare (showing age now...) versus Power Rangers when I first saw them. Oddly enough, the first day I went was with my good wife who is not a car person and she picked out the 350 wedge and said thats lovely..... Yes it is but with Tuscans, Chims & Griffs scattered about, not to mention the odd T350???? No offence wedge owners!!

OY! No I didn't. Kindly get your quotes right.
The Typhon is the latest development of the Tuscan (with racing very much in mind AFAIK).
There is, however, no reason to suspect that it will be produced for "8 minutes". It is itself a fusion of ideas from the Tuscan and Le Mans cars as I see it, and at that price is unlikely to be replaced any time soon.

I'm not certain, but I think they mean the guys who work there now, used to work at Haughins when the supercharger was develped.
