Which carpets???

I'm just about to order some new carpets from Coverdale, and i have samples here of polyester and wool carpets in the colour i want. The wool looks better quality and feel nicer, but will they last as well as the polyester ones?

What are the advantages and disadvantages of each?

Also is it worth getting the felt underlay aswell? I am thinking of just putting it along the parcel shelf, floors and possibly transmission tunnel.

All hints and tips welcome aswell

Wool would be my choice. Natural, easier to clean, more comfortable IMHO.
I would deffo use some underlay too. Woolies Trim do some good stuff, or ask where you get your carpet from.

Hi Lewis,

I did mine back in April with Wool carpets from Coverdale. The carpet was very good quality and all cut and well trimmed with edging. You will be amazed by how many pre-cut pieces of carpet there are – about 30! I’ve now only got 2 bits left that I can’t see where they are meant to go! The door panels are not included in the kit, so be sure to order extra carpet if you want to do them to match.
It took me two full weekends to do the job, with the driver’s footwell and where the dash meets the transmission tunnel being the trickiest parts. You need underlay to go under the seats and glue to the back of the footwell mats, I also added some under to rear shelf. For the rest, the original foam insulation is so well stuck down as you can’t get it off. Also get plenty of spray carpet glue, I got through 4 or 5 cans, but be sure it is heat proof as you don’t want it all to come off on the first hot day!

Oh,you will have fun agree with Purple about the glue though and it is a drawn out job alright but your keen as mustard so that always helps

Hi Lewis! Didn't give us much time to vote on this one!! I went polyester which i think is lighter and more resistant to moulding with the damp. Not that my car leaks at all...

As above, HEAT RESISTANT glue. Dont skimp.

Also, take meticulous notes on what bit of carpet comes from where and in what orientation. Very important this one! Dont just rip it out

At your age, polyester would only burn your knees, so wool is the right choice .

Strip out the carpets and foam and paint it black .... be just like a race car then

Well it seemed pretty unanimous

I asked my old man as well and he reckons the wool should be easier to clean and harder wearing, and it felt nice too

And don't worry, there will be plenty of lists and diagrams to go along with the task i should think!

Can anyone reccommend a specific glue and glue remover for the job?
