When you find them let us know as I have been looking for them for years that slip inside and do what they are supposed to do. The best I have found so far and I have a speed 6 with no cats or back box just straight through is Supper trapp silencers which got my car down from 118db to 100 for castle combe the other week. They do restrict but they do work. I have never found that you can have the cake and eat it with silencing.

Tim's silencers at ACT work very well but they do stick out quite far making your car look like a wheelbarrow

How much in decibels are you wanting to knock off Ian.

Not wishing to seem any dumber than I already do, but if those slip over the top of the existing pipes, won't they knock against the body?

Also, when you take them off, you either leave a hole for the self tapper or a delightful screw in the tails, no?

I am interested in this too, i'm not sure how many dB's i will need to knock off, but my chim has a sleeved silencer and soon to have no precats (if this makes any difference).

I don't care much how they look, more function over form. Which mute the noise the best?

Take the Precats out and you will see an increase in noise.

A friend who switched to the ACT Cherry Bomb system, did not get all that much increase in sound, but when we swithched the Exhaust manifolds there was a very big increase.

I may have to look into this, it would be nice if the engine breathed better, but i don't think the neighbours will like it getting much louder

I was 112db (inc cats) before my rebuild. I'm expecting this level and need to get to 15 db to drive at Spa.

Loosing 7DB should not be a problem Ian. I will see you on the 5th October at Spa.

Out of interest, how big is the power loss with a reasonable bolt-on/slot in silencer? Is it enough for a casual track dayer to feel the difference in?

Hi Ian Nickccc has some for his SP exhaust. You might like to drop him a note for more info?

Matt had some made up for me when the SP exhaust was very noisy. Beautiful but very costly, around £600. They fitted inside the exhaust but then stuck out as well by quite a few inches. Clever design though, they had a false looking rear exit whilst the actual exhaust exited on the underside. I think the idea was to direct the exhaust noise away from the testers mic.

These made about 4-5 bhp difference to my old Griff.....

The ACT external ones are held on by clamps (get some proper stainless band clamps rather than the U bolt types) so no screw holes. They don't hit the bodywork if you put them on right. Mine dropped the noise by 6dB, enough to get under the Prodrive 98dB limit (and I run with no pre-cats and a straight-through 'sports' main box which was 102dB at the standard 4000rpm and 0.5m/45deg off). I have no idea how much power is lost.

I've got the ACT sports system, but I'm not sure the size of the exhausts.
