Engine and Chassis Steam clean - Do's and don't

Hi all

Looking at giving my Chim a bit of a clean next wk, the chassis is pretty sound but has this horrible black Wxoyl all over it so I'm going to get my mates Steam cleaner and give it a go at getting it all off. Any tips on what to use to get all the grime off and what I should use afterwards. Secondly the engine bay is already pretty clean but whilst I've got the cleaner I might give it a go too. Is there anything that I need to know before I start this like things I should not get wet or will it be ok?

Any advice is appreciated as its gthe first time I'm doing anything like this.

Cover obvious exposed electrics, but the real trick is to do it when the engine is stone cold. This reduces any chance of water ingress.

My Indie uses break cleaner fluid in a plastic spray can to clean the chassis.
Spray on an wipe clean with old rag.

I use a mix of truck wash and simple green....works a treat

I used "engine" from Swissvax. worked very well... but chiuauiuaua... the price.
