just a thought if its the 2.9 engine on a s2 shouldn't the description be a 290s??
thought the 280 was the s1 2.8 engine.

Might mean the owner doesn't know too much about the cars?

mine was a 280s with a 2.9 engine, i think the 280s were s2's and the 290s s3's

More likely means that the DVLA registered them as 280S - seems to be common.

Even some of the V8S were registered as 290s.

AFAIK "280S" was TVR's original designation to the DVLA for the car we now now as an S1. When the S2 was launched, TVR never bothered to change this, but at some stage (around the time the S3 came out) it got changed to "290S". So most S1 & S2 are "280S" and most S3 onards are "290S".
