Tuscan to a Sagaris - Am I upgrading?

Hi Guys and Dolls. Hope you're all okay.

I'm looking at the possibility of moving to a Sagaris from my current Tuscan. To give some background i've owned my current pride and joy for four years now and am absolutely devoted to it (as i'm sure you all are!) I wouldn't change it for any other car. . . . .except a Sagaris! I've loved them ever since I first saw them. Yes it's a labour of love and there are times it does it's best to make me hate it (electric windows going out of sync, battery going flat at the petrol station because I left the lights on, locking the keys in it and having to abseil into it via the boot release and rear window removal!!!!)It's all there!!!

My question is. Is it going to be worth changing for what's going to be the best part of 20k? What's the advantages and are there any disadvantages. I'm not exactly unhappy with my Tuscan. . . .i'm in love with it!

I've been told I should be wary of early models due to an engine re-build (just like the Tuscan) Is this true?

I think you're ok on the engine rebuild front (ready to be corrected) as all the sags and the later Tuscans have the 2005 engine, which I believe had a few of the weaknesses engineered out (or better parts used). I'm no expert, mind you.

I've just upgraded to a Sag and I do think it's worth the money. There's a real sense of theatre in the sag and you don't see many about. The depreciation is also good given that there's so few. My advice, for the little that it's worth - just go try one and see how you feel.

I suppose the answer to your question largely relies upon what you want to use the Sag for.

Yes

Advantages:
- Handles better
- More grunt
- Looks better
- Better built

Disadvantages
- Hardtop

Whoever told you that was misinformed. The Sagaris version of the S6 is the most reliable version built. Been two issues reported on here out of ~160 built and I've no idea of the circumstances behind the two problem ones. I know of a couple with over 60,000 miles with no significant issues.

What else would I want a Sag for? For posing in and scaring motorbikes at roundabouts!!!!! I would be using it everyday, but only do about 15 miles per day. No track days.

Richard, I went from a Tuscan to a Sag last december, and would have absolutely no hesitation in saying, just do it
I had my Tuscan from new, and also had it for 4 years, so it was a real tough decision to part with it, as i loved it to bits, and was a little apprehensive about letting it go.
But, the Sag is just in another league, it really is. It just feels so much more planted than the tuscan ever did, and gives so much more confidence. My Tuscan was the 3-6 and the sag certainly feels much faster and more manic than the Tuscan did.
As you say, getting into any TVR gives an element of theatre, but if you haven`t driven a Sag, get a test drive somehow, and you will be hooked, that i guarantee.

I went from a MK 1 Tuscan to a Sag.
Mk 1 very nervous at anywhere near its limits ,but great fun.Also got front end going lite at higher speeds(150+).
Sagaris very confident on the road at any speeds.Easier to drive generally.
You have to factor in losing the roof off capability and the bigger boot in the Tuscan.
I have had engine rebuilds in both cars,(a liner slipped in the Sag)which now has the FFF engine from Racing Green.
Drive a Sag and see what you think.
Looks wise,I still think the Tuscan is hard to beat.
The one thing you can be sure about is the enjoyment you will get out of either car.

The later TVR's are really a league up in handling and build quality. Have a look at a Tuscan 2S too, an interesting alternative to the Sag. Both are terrific cars.
