New to TVR...Which One??
Discussion
I'm stuck between a rock and a hard place! There's two I've got my eye on, but to be honest not sure how different they'd be to own and drive.
Ones a 1992 Griffith Pre-CAT 4.0 with 59k
The others a 1999 Cerebra 4.0 Straight Six with 33k.
Both have comprehensive history.
Prefer the look of the Cerbera, but noise of Griffith. Merge them together? Maybe not...
Would appreciate any opinions!
Cheers guys

Depends on how much you want to spend keeping the thing together...
Absolutely! 17 year old car or 10 year old with half the mileage, now let me think about that

17 year old car with a pretty much bomb proof RV8 based engine, or a 10 year old with half the mileage and a £7k rebuild very likely to be needed soon? Now let me think about that

Not quite that simple. Cerbie's are hideously expensive to maintain, whereas the v8 in the Griff will be simpler and cheaper than the speed 6. If cost isn't an issue, then the Cerbie every time. If cost is an issue, and it normally is, then you'll find yourself better off with the v8.

To be honest it would not be the engine I'd be worried about in the Cerb - if it goes it's a good excuse to put in a 5 year warranteed Power 4.3 lump
- it's the host of underdeveloped electrickery in it and the sheer expense for all the bespoke parts (clutch for starters
) versus the simple and easy to get by, run of the mill stuff in a Griffmaera. To be honest and a little more sensible in my response you couldn't really be looking at two different cars. At least, you should visit a TVR specialist and get to drive both cars as you're talking chalk and cheese.
I'd suggest you join the TVRCC and get along to a regional meeting, local to you, where you'll find owners of both cars only too happy to show you their P&Js and talk honestly about them.

Mixed views! I really like the seating position of Cerbera, cockpit style. Problem is their both the same price, just maintenance to consider.
What's the view on the noise of the speed six? I think it's going to have to be the Cerbie... Just can't believe I'm choosing a six over V8.
Get a sports exhaust fitted to the Six and you'll love the noise it makes. I do What's the view on the noise of the speed six? I think it's going to have to be the Cerbie... Just can't believe I'm choosing a six over V8.

Firstly, good to see someone else wants to join the TVR fold.
Secondly, i'll echo what's already been said, you really couldn't be looking at two more different cars.
The RV8 engine has a plentiful parts supply, the SP6 engine doesn't, and therefore comes at a far greater cost.
What's your budget to purchase, and for annual running costs?

I'm the very proud owner of a 1997 Cerbera 4.2 and a 2002 Tuscan S in GTS Blue.
All good at the moment, only a short list of to do's so far...

Not sure how long you've had them now. But honestly - if you had to sell one of them, which would it be?
Oh and congratulations!

Thanks! It was a tough decision, but also the easiest! Can't get over just how different they are...
Picked the 4.2 because I read it was more ferocious, it's certainly that not that I've been in a 4.5 yet. Three haha, please no more temptation!
Ouch, what a question! I really can't choose between them. Bought the Cerbie (aka Bean) Sunday before last and the Tuscan S yesterday. I'd be tempted to keep Bean as it just seems that much more raw, but the Tuscan S (yet without a nickname) has the appeal which I think is half the joy.
BDM - love the paint!!
Now I just need to find the time to drive them...Blast anyone?
