RV8 rebuild/cam change?

Morning all.

It may seem an odd request, but is there anyone local-ish to Bristol/Bath planning major surgery to their/a TVR RV8 in the near future? If so would they like the help/interference of someone as useless as an untrained chimp to make tea and give them the wrong spanner from time to time?

I'm a complete dunce when it comes to engines and oily stuff but would like to get a better understanding of how it all works. There's only so much I can glean from the intersex and it's not like the real thing.

I'll probably be doing my valve stem seals in the next couple of months - both heads will be coming off. I'm in Gloucester which might be a bit far for you.

Be great if there was a course to go on? (RV8 strip down and reassemble). Sure we could get a few of us together

No problem - I'll give you a shout nearer the start - just finishing off putting my friends Griff body back on his chassis after a refurb. Once the garage is freed up again I'll be cracking on.

Yep - replacing the head gaskets too as I'm pretty sure the nearside is shot.

I left the car standing for about 4 months so before I started it popped the plugs out to give it a good chance to move some oil about. When I cranked it shot water out of front nearside cylinder. I stuck thin dowel in to see just how wet it was in there and only just covered the end of the stick the other cylinders were all as dry as a bone. Left it a couple of days then 'dipped the cylinder again' it was about a 0.5CM up the dowel. Also getting quite a bit of pressure in the cooling system too - so I thought stuff it I'll pull it apart and see what's going on :-)

I used to work in Gloucester, it's only half an hour up the M5 for me. Let me know nearer the time and I'd be very interested.
