is there an alternative to velcro on the rear folding roof

I have the roof off my S1 for some repairs to the rear folding section and have noticed that the velcro almost fell off the body and looks a right mess. What function does this have? Has anyone used a different fixing type? I was looking at stud type fixings (not press studs but similar).

The velcro is there to secure the roof in the correct position to keep the cabin water tight.

I have not seen any other type of fixing on S's, Griff's or Chimps...... But what I have seen, and I am considering doing my self, is a rivit on the leading edge approx 1/4" from the end.... this holds the front end of the velcro down, which is where the velcro starts coming away from the body work, and over time works its way towards the back....... Maybe an for you
