I have just looked into renewing / changing my policy and the results are as follows -

TVR Tuscan S 2002 Garaged SDP only age 41 vlaue 20k tracker fitted

A-Plan-------569.97----excess 200---- no track cover
A-Flux-------442.68----excess 500---- track cover yes--3,000 excess
A Manning----514.00----excess 550---- track cover yes--2,550 excess
Hagerty------414.12----excess 350---- track cover yes--2,000 excess
NB Hagerty track cover is additional 10% of premium per track day - ie 41.41 each event.

Hagerty are the only ones not to load the policy by 200 quid if I add the missus.

Any reason not to go with Hagerty then....?

Have I missed anyone else off the list worth checking?

Cheers

looking at those the second to last one would be best if your doing more than say 2/3 trackdays

hagerty would be my choice, i was unable to go with them as the daily driver was regestered to the O/H you need to have another car in your name to take out their cracking deals

Ive just dug out my Mannings policy. Excess for TD is stated as £1000 on top of the voluntary excess, making it £1500. Wonder why they have quoted you £2000?

Have you put on any mileage restrictions on the quotes?

Thx for feedback so far - milage restriction set at 5k pa. Remember if I wanted to add the other half - everyone except Haggerty wanted 170-200 on top of the premium quoted. I would probably not do more than 2 or 3 track days in any one year.

I am with Hagerty on a multi car policy but my daily driver is a company car not in my name. I think you have to have a daily driver have a chat with Phil Dunn at Hagerty & check again

never had an issue with car not in my name, so long as you have access to another car as your main drive....... for me a letter from company confirms this, as well as my accident status......

currently with Sunninghill who beat all of those for me .... incl track day... not sure about the missus as aint got one, got a lovely Griff cloud9 instead

Try 'Needtoinsure'

They got the best quote for me on the Griff by hundreds of pounds.
Great service too.

Elephant come up with some great quotes for me but they don't do track day cover.

Hagerty do not do commuting, so no chance of ever taking your car to work on a nice day. When probed about this, they are unprofessionally vague, rather than just saying its not covered. They say it can be OK, sometimes, maybe, not too often, depends really. I put the phone down at this point. Not that commuting is that important to me, but I was left very cold by the way they handled it.

I think they're entirely happy for you to commute every day if you so wish - the police checks show whether you/the car are insured so you're 'legal'.
I expect your problems appear when you need to make a claim on a commute.

This is speculation, tongue in cheek - not a dig at any insurance company.

I thought SDP covers to and from work, you only need extra if you travel within work hours.

When I first had the TVR (before they introduced the new age limit) Hagerty were the cheapest by a huge, huge margin. Nice bunch to deal with too and the track cover is useful, both of which mean I've stuck with them for the new car, even though the premium for that was actually a few quid higher than some of the other companies (largely because it's post-2000).

If you intend to travel to and from work I'd confirm you're covered and get it in writing. As said above, some insurers specifically exclude commuting which I interpret as travelling to and from my regular place of work. Travel during the course of the working day is business use AFAIK.

SDP is social, domestic and pleasure... no work in there buddy! SDP+C includes commuting to and from single place of work, and Hagerty specify only SDP. Also, if you are 'insured' to commute, but can't claim if you have an accident, what exactly is the point in that? If you can't claim, I am sure that must mean you are uninsured, and if you are uninsured not only are you NOT insured, but clearly you would have to pay out for damages, but also would be breaking the law. I just went with AF.
