It all depends on your own personal circumstances. Over the years I have used Sunninghill (good for limited mileage) and am currently with Mannings, (TVRCC recommended, disliked by many, liked by me - currently).

you'd be suprised how cheap some people can get their policies - age, NCB and postcode seem to be the defining factors (as always!). Have seen some people paying only £400 - £500. I only pay £850, and was 25 when this years policy started, car on drive, 4 years NCD.

So far I've had quotes ranging from £2200 down to £1040. That was 6000 miles (limited), garaged and with a Cat I immobiliser/alarm.

I'm 42, two or three years NCB (hard to tell with 'introductory' offers etc) and I think I'm in a reasonably safe postcode.

Surely I should be able to do better than that? Anyone know what insurance group a Griff is?

I was with Sunninghill, but changed this year to Classic Line.
42 yrs old
London Borough of Bromley
Garaged
7k miles (I think)
Griff 500 96
All the bells & whistles re Euro cover etc.

£465.00 nearly bit his arm off!!
Churchill wanted £2500.00!!

I've had all sorts of convictions (one DD40 - dangerous driving - 4 1/2 years ago) and my wife is under 25. We are both insured on the Cerb with Tesco's. They are good for us!!

Oh, and the obligatory three points on my licence courtesy of some little prick hidden in the back of an unmarked van.

That's almost exactly my profile. You wouldn't have Classic Line's phone number would you please?

Blimmin' hell! I'm with Sunninghill, and also have an SP30. I have unlimited milage and full track day cover. The Griff, by the way, is group 20.

Who have you got quotes from so far?

I had a bit of a phone around a few weeks ago as I needed to renew my insurance. Only thing that had changed was my little 14 day ban for a little indiscretion in my Noble

Turned out that my current insurer (Privilege) was still the most competitive.

The specialists (Mannings, Sunninghill) reckoned they could have got me better quotes if I had a garage (houses with garages round my way are around 500k or more, so that's not possible...). And once over 30 years old (I'm 29) then I could use a classic policy, apparently.

So if you're over 30 and have a garage, then you should be able to get a half decent quote. I'm paying 900 quid, but as the insurance people said, I do at least have a history of driving reasonably powerful cars.

So far through my current (kit) insurers Osborne and Sons which will be a Lloyds syndicate, and two through Sureterm Direct. I think one was Lloyds again and the other Norwich Union.

It's early days and it looks like I just got a couple of duff ones (I hope). I'm not going to scrimp and end up with The Mud Hut & General or Shifting Sands Syndicate but it looks from your answers that I can do better.

I'll hit the phone again tomorrow. Thanks everyone (again)

A Manning were best for us at £738, but our existing insurers "pay the difference to upgrade" price was very competitive, so we've stuck with them for the remainder of the year....

Does this get taken into account then?

I understand that things like occupation get forgotten about by people asking for quotes, apparently if you're in a high paid job, then it follows that your passengers might also be in this bracket, with accociated risks - couldn't believe that when I heard it!!

I'm 35, live in a very good postcode but don't have a garage, but I do have a history of performance cars but I'm still paying £800+ for a 6K limited mileage policy. Oh and track days are extra at £53 per day and a £2.5K excess, as much as I'd hate to move from my current insurer I think next year I'll be shopping around.

One last question...

is it true that first year premiums are loaded as that's when the majority of first time TVR owners have a claim? Or is this simply urban myth?

I always understood that first year premiums were lower so as to suck you in.

Subsequent years premiums are then crept up by just enough to not make you go elsewhere. They rely on us being too lazy to shop around.

Have you requested a limited mileage policy..?

They normally like to limit the first years insurance, although you can upgrade to a higher mileage at any point during the year. Unless of course you intend to use the car full time?
