the cover note for 2 months has now expired and still no certificate to tax the car

Was with them when had my Chim and first few months of the Tuscan, was not impressed as 1) they were £500 more expensive then Sunninghills and 2) always late getting docs...especially after i left them!!!

I'm trying to sort out insurance at the moment for a road legal Tuscan Challenge Car and thought who better to ask than THE official TVR insurers - how wrong I was, they were rude and £700 more expensive than three other quotes that I'd already received!

Won't be calling them again.

I was shunned by Mannings as I didn't have 6000 miles experience in 200+hp car. Pearts insured Lorraine and me, no problem, very prompt, very helpful.

Mannings spoke down to me because I was daring to put my car in a locked driveway over night and not in a garage. They weren't complimentary about our thoughts on getting a tracker fitted if that would help with the insurance.

In the end, he was so rude that I suggested they amend their advert to say that as the ONLY official TVR insurance company, they'll only insure super careful drivers who are going to keep their cars hidden away in a garage 24/7...!

Tesco's have been much more helpful though

Mannings

M@H some time ago said:

Well I've been one of those people who has defended Mannings low policy rates in the past and have had insurance with them for the S and for the Chimaera.

As some of you will know I changed up to the Chim in September 2002, and at the time phoned up Mannings for a change of car on the existing S2 policy (having sold the S to CarZee). Anyway, all was well and they sent me through a covernote; originally one for a £22k Cerbera, but a correct one arrived a week or so later.

As a few more weeks went by I phoned them to see if there was anything I needed to do information-wise etc, and was assured that there wasn't and cover was in place, all was well and I have been driving the car ever since.

So I've just recently received my Roadtax renewal form, and guess what.. the only proof of insurance I have is the expired covernote, I was never sent a revised policy document and had forgotten about chasing it.. D'oh ! Knowing Mannings record on administration I wasn't holding my breath on getting it soon either..

However the story got better this morning when I got my policy renewal notice and quote in the post from Mannings. Guess what, the policy renewal is for the S series, not for the Chimaera so it looks like I've spent the last 3 months since the covernote expired, driving uninsured as they didn't actually amend the policy

I will not be using Mannings for the Chim again, as despite their low quotes, I don't trust them or their administration to help out favourably in the event of a claim.

Matt.

Of course I still had the Landrover insured with them at the time of all this, and true to form they sent me my invitation to renew the cover, the day after it had expired.. ironically this was in a period when I was using the Landrover every day, so I spent a day of driving that uninsured too..

Matt.

was with them for the first year I had the Griff, when I came to change (new insurer well over £500 cheaper - at which Manning's was 'amazed' because no-one is cheaper than they are apparently....) they wouldn't give me a no-claims letter for my new insurer despite having agreed that I would get it...., fortunately I managed to blag it with the Volvo's insurance that I now use it on....

My new insurer (can't remember the name but it's the Stirling Moss recommended one in all the Classic mags) are much cheaper than anyone (limited classic policy mind) and didn't need any no-claims questions regarding experience etc...

Manning's policy was one of the main reasons I joined the club in the first place - well disappointed.

As I remember they only have one guy who deals with the TVR policies so I suggest you just keep on ringing him until they come up with the paperwork. I had to go to the office to collect a covernote for tax as I remember.....

Have you written to them and phoned them requesting a certificate of motor insurance.

I must admit they are not as efficient as they could be and have had to prod them seveal times for documentation. I just renewed with them and stipulated that I wanted a cover note issued and sent that day. They actually sent me a certificate of insurance... although, having changed coverage on the policy I have had to ask them for a detailed schedule to be sent. Have you tried emailing Anthony Phillips Anthony_Phillips@amanninguk.com ?

As an aside, A Manning are a member of the General Insurance Standards Council. Enter A Manning in the name box here for details.

Mention that the GISC requires them to issue policy documentation promptly as per the GISC rules.

As for problems on rates. Insurance is fickle at the best of times. The only way to keep insurers on their toes is by shopping around each year.... but above all, have fun driving the TiV!

Just changed from Mannings to Pearts after mannings upped my premium by £180. No changes to my circumstances other than another year of uneventful motoring. Mannings wouldn't insure Mrs Monkeypilot because she had no high performance car experience. Peart covered me and the Mrs, including trackdays and continental driving for just £70 more than my current.
Now all I've got to do is get my proof of no claims out of Mannings.

Well since I cancelled my Chim policy I've been waiting for the partially refunded premium which this thread has reminded me to chase as they did say it would be coming back in December.

I cancelled the policy second week in October ...

Have been with Mannings for a good few years and did know top bod Anne Manning.
Sadly now it is all automated and we are just numbers the personal service has gone.

I moved from them this year after a collection of absolutely gobsmacking slaps.

1. Renewal arrived.
2. I rang for an idea of what renewal would be with fewer miles...
Eventually after pressing many numbers and listening to many recorded announcements....
QUOTE.. " A bit less"
yes but how much?
"a bit"
can you tell me how much"
"No not really"
well could you send me the new figure in writing please, maybe an email?
"No"
sorry !!?
"I'm too busy and there is no one to type it up"
Scuze ME!!?
"It may take a couple of days"
OK I'd decided by this point thatno spotty Oik was having my hard earned if this was the way I was going to be treated!.

I now use Classic Line 01455 639000
Personal Service, good rates.
Friendly and passionate about our cars.
It doesn't cost much.
Customer service is alive after all.

Morning fella's.Glad to hear that I am not the only one who bothered to contact THE official TVR car club insurance company when I first bought my Griff.Had the same treatment you guy's got, rude and patronizing snearing down their nose and to top it all REFUSED to even give me a qoute, told me to go away and come back when I had had a years experience! As it happens they did me a favour because I went to Sunninghill and they are brlliant and still with them.I wont ever be contacting Mannings and would recomend anyone seaking insurance not to bother either. If anyone from Mannings reads these comments I suggest you get you act together PDQ.It also reflects badly on TVR, perhaps someone further up should take a look for themselves?

Price I was quoted was acceptable but as I have the luxury of a garage and limited miles I should hope so. Agree that they need to sort out their customer service, still waiting for the certificate to arrive two weeks after I paid for it. However last year which was the first year I had no problems with their service so maybe things have taken a dive recently.

Had no problems at all in my dealings with them. I was already with Sunninghill who wanted to put my premium up by an extra 50% for way less cover so I gave Mannings a call.
New policy was £100 cheaper than the previous year with Sunninghill, cover note was sent out immediately and certificate arrived within 2 weeks.

Still as always I guess there are many of us more than happy but never write to say so.

I contacted Ann Manning directly when they arsed up my policy (again) as I though that as MD, she would want to clean up their PR act. I wasn't convinced that it would happen. Also, they just charged me 15 quid to insure a courtesy car for a day.

Having had my say, I would like to point out that this is sailing close to this sites naming and shaming policy and that we should be a bit careful about telling the truth.

Well I went to Mannings for the first time as they were £100 cheaper than renewing NU through a mate, and with the track day cover thrown in too thought nothing to lose. Then i receive a letter stating that i had not declared a driving ban i had, and that it would be an extra £100 before they would issue the certificate!! I always declare everything on my license when getting insurance as to not do so would render me uninsured and is not something I would risk with a 40K car! However my insurance broker mate just said i had no legal grounds as it was a verbal quote!

I sent them a letter accompanying my reluctant payment, suggesting that they had mis-quoted me, and that they would not be getting my recommendation within tvrcc or my future business. Got no apology, although did get my policy documents!! Don't expect to get my renewal papers in a rush though!
