One of our technical guys has just informed me that our other site used to made the cranks for TVR from around 2000 up untill fairly recently so i presume it would be the speed 6 crank.

Can anyone confirm where/by whom the cranks were cast?

It's pretty true, I was there and saw one straight after machining smile They may also have used DK but that's just a guess.

They certainly did machining and if they are a foundary (I think they were) I reckon they'll have done the casting as well. It's been years since I've been there.

I've had my own 5.0 cranks cast but they're expensive compared to ordinary stroked 4.6 cranks. Do you grind cranks, I can provide stroked castings, large or small journal and for chevy rods smile Or are you trying to organise castings?

MY understanding is that the casting pattern was designed by TVR own engineers.... leading to Fardons (machinists) pointing the finger at the design team over porosity in the cranks when they were failing in use, and porosity being found whilst they were being machined and ground (leading to lots of written off cranks). Test cranks were X-rayed to work out the problem...and as I understand the pattern was redesigned.

Farndon weren't in the list of TVR creditors when they went bankrupt.

That could be because they weren't owed any money or somebody else was grinding cranks or there weren't any orders for cranks amongst other reasons.

Im just interested to know if the company I work for actually did the rough castings. They have no/little precision grinding capabilities so I know that was definitely not done. I work for Russell Ductile castings at Shorpe and we specialise in large castings, our Leicester site (formally Russell castings) does smaller castings inc some cranks and this is where its supposed (by a guy here) that the TVR cranks were cast.

Edited to add, i love the swearfilter on SC.U.N.THORPE
