hi all , can you get faulty windscreen glass ?

i had a new windscreen fitted 4 months ago , and have covered less than 800 miles

but within a week i noticed 2 very small chips

after 4 months i have approx 7 to 8 very small chips

is this normal ? i've never heard/seen any stones hit the screen when driving ?

i dont know if this is normal/accepted or whether i should go back to auto glass

cheers keith

You'd be surprised at the marks tiny bits of grit can make. Just think, you're driving at 70mph, a car coming the other way flicks a small stone or grain of sand in your direction that's also doing say 60mph and then you have a closing speed of 130mph. You'll never see or hear it but that's a chip.

Unless you're meaning around the edges but I don't think you are?

I had a new one last year and went on a trackday shortly after, looked like the old one after.

can you put some kind of armour fend on them to protect them? I am going to have a new screen when my car goes back together.

If you have had it four months, think back to the snow and ice in Feb/March.
All that grit and salt on the roads, the cars do take a hammering.

I had my screen replaced in December, its not till you look through a new screen that you realise how chipped they get, and the chances are you never really noticed before.

To be honest it sounds like the screen isn't right. I have no chips in mine and have done 20K miles and I usually drive it like I stole it. I guess the glass could be different on replacements but it still sounds odd to me.

Get an insurer with windscreen cover (I'm with Direct Line). Put a nice crack in it and get a new one for £50 and your NCD isn't effected.
