Hi,

I’m in the process of deciding which TVR to buy. I’m thinking of spending about 35K which means either a new Tamora or a 2nd hand 2000 Cerbera 4.5. Does anybody out there have experience of both a Cerby and a Tamora? Is there much of a difference between a Tamora and a 4.5? With that in mind si there much of a difference between 2000 4.2 and a 4.5? I like to drive but I don’t fancy myself as a driver. I used to rip around the black mountains in my chimp 500 and considered it to be a competent car. Is there going to be that much of a difference between a Tamora and a 4.5? What I’m trying to say is would a driver have to be highly skilled to feel the difference between them?

Regards,

Rob

I guess one obvious difference is that the roof comes off the Tamora... and I'm not being facetious. I'd have thought a closer comparison is between a Tuscan and a Cerbera? Do you want wind-in-your-hair on a sunny day or air-con? R...

Do you want sheer grunt or power with poise?

Ted,

What I want is a new shape Cerby (twin headlights etc) but I need to make sure that I'm not missing out. I.e. that the Tamora is so good in comparison that I need to re-evaluate my options. Know what I mean? ;->

Have you had a chance to try both yet?

Ted,

Nope, just a 4.2. That felt so good in comparison to my 500 that I simply could not imagine exploring the edge of it's envelope. This is why I'm edging towards the Cerbers.........I love the way it looks and I don't think I could drive either cars to the extent where I would be aware of differences in their handling characteristics. I’ve ‘raced’ my chimp 500 over the black mountains ‘against’ a friend in his Tuscan, and frankly there was very little in it (it was dry), does this make me good or him crap!? (Probably the latter) This is why I didn’t think there would be much in it between a Cerby and Tamora as I new the Cerby was definitely better than the chimp, but the Tamora uses the Tuscan chassis. (Sorry – I’m finding it difficult to follow that logic and I just wrote it! ;->)

Tricky one. I'd love a Cerby with the handling of a Tamora!

The Cerbera's handling isn't particularly inspiring. You really don't have to drive the Tamora fast to appreciate how well set up it is. Forgetting outright speed comparisons, the Tamora's chassis is more fun I'd say.

Cheers Ted,

It looks like I'll need a test drive. I'll let you know if that changes my mind.
