Will be buying a Chimaera soon, and am trying to plan ahead in order to avoid as many potential problems as possible.

1. Already joined TVRCC / bought "bible" / obtained insurance quote.
2. Will replace battery (have always done this with any pre-owned car)
3. Have a full service (whether it needs one or not)
4. Book a ride-drive session.
5. Buy spares: bulbs / fuses / spark plugs / oil / tyre weld / fan belt / accelerator cable / touch-up paint / fabsil

Any other requirements / suggestions would be welcome !

Don't forget to drive it - there's such a thing as being over-prepared.

Other things you have got to do are :-
Clear out the garage
Paint the garage floor
Put up new lighting.
Fix carpet to garage walls to protect doors
Buy an accumate to keep the battery charged
Buy a dehumidifier if you garage is detached from the house.
Buy new bed linen as you will need to use your existing sheets for polishing rags.
Clear space in warerobe for PH/TVR/TVRCC emblazoned shirts and jackets
Buy some comfortable light weight driving shoes
Find your nearest supply of optimax
Tell your partner that you will busy most weekends either driving, cleaning, polishing and pampering your new love.
Prepare to have your social life dominated with things TVR related.

Any finally stretch you mouth from each corner twice a day.
This prevents excess pain from the flippin big grin you'll have when driving it.

Not exactly stocking up, but during all my working years I have tried to anticipate and prepare for things - the "5P" principle of "Proper Planning Prevents Potential Problems" As for replacing the battery, it is a small price to pay for such an essential item, that may, or may not, need replacement at any time. I do agree that a full service may be a bit over the top, but I will be travelling to France on a regular basis, and unless the car has been recently serviced, I would have it done, if only for my own (possibly warped) peace of mind.

If it's just been serviced, simply send me a cheque for £600 and save yourself the hassle of booking it in

But I do suggest you get to know the car for a week or two before you start worrying too much. If you're concerned about breaking down - and there's always a 'bedding in time' with any new car until you gain confidence in it - why not join the AA? Not much money, you may never need them, and a fraction of the cost of your list.

Can be a good idea.

Tried to start my car last Saturday (I use it every day incidently) and it got as far as the fuel pump priming and then "click" - dead battery - ergo no crank.

As I've no secondary power unit and the car lives outside, I called the AA. (damn good btw, their dash-mounted computer provided detailed info on the Chimaera).

Once we'd undone the bolts under the car and pulled the battery out of it's box, we found it was an 069 other than an 070. OK, small difference but enough to kill the car dead- over a temperate 14 hours.
Dud cell apparently.

Because the patrolman knew the marque he was attending,
he brought a new battery with him. Cost was £63 but at least I had help fitting it for free.

Problem now is, last night the red dash Alt light was glowing slightly- maybe it's that fickle 100amp fuselink again..
Edited to say- the replacement is an 072 not an 070
