[tongue in cheek mode...]

I'm confused. There seems to be a inordinant number of cars for sale because people have a baby on the way including a 70k diablo and several tvrs. Now we've just had a baby and she's now 14 weeks old and frankly they aren't that expensive. I'm not saying that they don't cost some money but not as much to run as say a diablo or a chimaera (mainly because you get loads of glothes given to you and the food is free). If you can afford a diablo or a tvr then you can afford a baby IME (admitedly this doesn't apply as they get a bit older).

So why is it at the first sign of a baby do people off load their cars? Surely they could spend the amount they are about to lose in depreciation on a run about for those family days out? We bought a v6 mondeo estate and it's absolutely brilliant (mainly because I'm not cursing it for replacing my beloved sports car, it's actually pretty good in its own right too and cheap to buy and run). Having been a dad for 3/4 months I'm now looking at selling my s3 however and buying a chimaera.

So what gives future dads, why the panic? Why not suck it and see? Don't be a martyr, keep the lambo. Get a cheap eurobox for a while and see how it goes. It's much more fun to dash to sainsburys for those nappies in your ferrari than your almera.

You know it makes sense and you'll be a happier dad (or mum)

Good to hear this. A 'friend of mine' will take that as great encouragement!

My 14 month old boy will not stop me buying a 2 str sports car. If all three of us go somewhere we will use the family car. If he goes with me but my wife stays at home then the car seat can go in the passenger seat, no airbag of course.

I agree, I became a Dad on Xmas day and baby averil is more than happy to come out in the Chimaera. A few weekends back I was out in the TVR getting the papers and baby came along, I got a fantastic dirty look from the Parent & Child parking space users when I pulled into the parking space until I took out baby from the passenger side.
The girlfriend / partner / missus has a Fiat Seicento sporting which seems to cover most of our needs as a family. My girlfriend is using the Chimaera to do a 300 mile trip with baby to visit her parents next week.

TVR works well for us and pram will fit in the boot.

P.S I think I need a baby on board sticker

At the moment I can't use the baby seat in the s3 as it's a rear facing one and the belt isn't long enough. When she can go in a front facing seat we should be good to go and mum can stay at home

Ironically, one of the reasons I bought a TVR (Cerbera) is because I do have kids. It has a relatively large boot to carry pushchairs etc and the rear +2 seats are adequate for kids. I like sportscars, particularly classics, and have never owned a saloon or modern sportscar (until now). The Cerbera was a preferable alternative to buying a modern saloon. Next to the Aston Martin (just slightly out of my price range ) it's also the best looking modern car around.

Just got my first TVR with a daughter of 16 months as I felt I needed an escape from 2 women in the house.... plus the baby seat fits OK if need be.

However I must take a look at the cerbie, as that way if they started nagging en-route to holiday or whatever you could just drop a gear and drown out their ramblings........

When I was looking to purchase my Chimaera I used to go each w/end by myself. Then one w/end it was pouring, so the wifey decided we'd make it a family outing in the Volvo.
As my 4-year old daughter saw the car, she immediately said, even before we got out of the Volvo - 'but Daddy - where am I going to sit, theres no back seats?' - I immediately replied - 'In the passenger seat darling'. After she heard the engine she commented ' Daddy this car will wake me every morning'.

Now when I'm nipping anywhere I'll ask her which car should we take - she always replies 'the noisy one!'.

Before the Chimaera I had an old Renault-5 as the 2nd car (in fact we owned it for 12-years - is that a record ?) - not once did we as a 3-person family ever travel in that car together - this was my reasoning that I gave the wife for the TVR - NO REGRETS

My 2 sons (now aged 13 and 14) have until recently always travelled to GT/Tuscan race meetings in the back of my Cerbera. We took a friend of theirs one year to Donnington with us when their was the torrential downpour. Quite a few people thought it was amazing that me (6'1") and my 2 sons (5'10" plus) as well as their mate could pour ourselves into a Cerbera.
As I said to the wife, "an ideal family car!"

"you all wait"
Kids are expensive , thats the reason i recently purchase my Chimaera . I have a boy of 14 and a girl of 12 who argue like cat and dog.
When i arrived home with MY Chimaera, my daughters first question was...but dad it's only a two seater were do we sit!...ANSWER you don't its my car, i now have my own little world away from reality....
I'd pay to see there faces again

Same for me only I've got 4 women in the house - and (after my wife) the oldest is 4!! Having taken about 10 years to afford/justify a TVR, it was either now or wait for another 18 years. (Selfish, me? Naah - the children absolutely love it )

I have three kids and they love the cerbera - they always want to go in "daddys red sports car" and love the little seats in the back - my daughter says the seats are cute, and my other daughter keeps asking me if we can take the roof off!! A soft top cerbera - now there`s an idea!! ( By the way on Christmas day we have all five of us in the cerbera - don`t ask - but it was fun!!)
Families - no problem!! Just trade up from a chimaera to a cerbera!! Lets just hope the wife doesn`t fall pregnant again - keep wondering how that happens???

Go for it!!

Had the same with my two boys in my old Speed Six Cerbera, many happy hours driving to Powertours events, they used to call it the noisy car, they call the Porsche the racing car (because of the rear spoiler) but they still ask where the noisy car is and can spot a TVR on the road way before me

Yeah, people say that kids and two seat sportscars don;t mix ... well, they do.

I sit in the drivers seat and then the wife and our two kids can slug it out as to who joins me.

Sometimes there's so much going on I'll just drive off on me own

how about a child seat that fits in the back of a griff or chim it could bolt onto seat belt points with a solid metal frame with a child seat solidly mounted in the middle. have this made properly and im sure it would be safe
then mum dad and baby can all go along{or is this missing the point}

Every Dad should have a TVR.

This is likely to invalidate your insurance. The Griff is a 2 seater, not 3. I agree this is likely to be totally safe, but you know insurance companies!
