Looking to buy my second TVR after a bad experience with my first...
Are there people with SP6 engines built after 2004, still or have had engine problems??
when the parts used to build them were supposed to be of better quality.....!
and how long are people having to wait for spare parts these days.
Apologies for dragging the question of engines up again just wanted up to date facts.
Regards

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but I have a late Tuscan (unofficial mk 3) and it needed a bottom end rebuild after 12,000 miles!! Work done by STR8 SIX (who I would definitely recommend to anyone - Jason Clegg is a top bloke) and it now runs like a dream. The problem with buying a second hand car is that you never know how the previous owner(s) have treated it, while a good service history is very important unfortunately is doesn't guarantee you are buying a trouble free car. This does not just apply to TVR - look at the 26 page thread on the Porsche forum re the 2004 997!!!
Not sure if this will help you or not but my advise is to do as much homework on the cars history before you put down your hard earned (a very expensive lesson that I learned!!)
Alan.

My Tuscan is a late 2004 MK2 and ive had no problems with it since I bought it 3 years ago!
As an Engineer and having run up turbines for a living, I always ALWAYS warm her up by driving below 2000 revs until the oil temperature is a steady 50 degrees and then will not exceed 5000 revs until well into the 60s, rarely going into the 7000 revs range as quite frnkly it scares the s
t out of me!!
I believe this has greatly helped the engines wellbeing, and would even say that it is a lot quieter on initial start up than when I first got her.
Oil changes no matter how little use over the last 3 years and a fettle now and again have kept her in tip top condition.

Hi - I've got an 05 Tuscan 2 3.6. Quite a lot of improvements were made to the speed 6 over its' lifetime according to Paul at Austec and I believe that most Mark 2 Tuscans have the mods.
However, I still managed to have a head gasket failure at 6k miles, resulting in a engine out £1.6k+ job. It failed at cylinder 6. Austec replaced it with a higher-quality (than OEM) item with extra cooling slots.
As everyone has mentioned, warm-up procedure is key...
